have a 64 dodge dart 904 S/B trans push button wanted to put a 3500 convertor in it zoom it up a little that trans have a different front input spline what did you guys do so you can use a regular 904 convertor that off the shelf thanks

Also remember the pilot snout that fits in the early crank is smaller than the 69 up converters.Doubt if you will find one off the shelf.Hughes converters made one for me,,but that was 18 years ago.At the time it was about $360+.I'm sure it will be double that now.

Try Dynamic - they should be able to make just about anything you want.

You could also pull the front pump and replace it with a 68-later unit and then use any off the shelf/custom stall you wanted to.

i may have to forget the push buttons and go with a newer 904 then also would be slip yoke drive shaft but would have to find a good cheap shifter lol thanks for help

Not so.

If the engine is a 1968 and up, yes your modification will work. However, if the engine is a 1962-1967 engine, the pilot size is different.
1962-1967 Crankshaft pilot 1.550"
1968-up Crankshaft pilot 1.810"
Just get a converter built to your specifications. With the early engine, you won't find one on the shelf at Summit etc.

the engine iam putting in is a 68 340 if i get a 1966 to 1978 non lock up 904 will i be alright ? i know i will have to get a shifter but also will have a slip yoke drive shaft money is a issue with me s/s only so have to go as cheap as possible is there any place that list trans numbers so i dont buy the wrong one ? thanks

Get a 1968 up transmission.

sorry about all the questions my convertor guy says he can get around 3000 max stall out of my stock convertor is that enough for the 340 202 head 525 solid cam stock 340 short block dual plane intake 750 holley dp carb ,fender well headers, 410 gear to get the 63 dart into the 12s ?

if i use the 64 push button trans will it and the convertor 904 bolt up to my 68 340 motor with out any problems ?

A 68 model crank should have the larger sized bore. The pre 68 torque converter should have the smaller sized snout.
Aftermarket has a bushing that fills the void there.

one more question what size 10or11 inch and what stall in a 70 challenger 318 with 904/ thanks
Making the assumption the engine is stock, no need to go to anything other than a stock converter. It will be an 11" converter. There are two 11" converters for this application from the factory, a low stall and a high stall. Get the factory higher stall (about 200-300rpm) over the factory low stall.

I don't know who your converter guy is, but 3000 stall out of a 11" unit is pushing the limit. It's not that it can't be done, but getting that stall out of an 11" converter, can make it really sloppy at higher rpm. The pump vanes and the turbine vanes are bent past practically, and the stator is probably cut too much also. The majority of high stall converter builders typically build a 3000 stall converter out of a 10" converter. Ask him what he does internally to get that kind of stall.
Any idea what the HP is of your engine? A dyno sheet will tell a converter builder where to stall your converter at.
As far as your 1/4 mile times, there's a hell of a lot more than just the engine/and gears. Ask any drag racer on Chasis mods etc., and what they had to do to get into the 12's.

probably buy a 70 904 out of a challenger that i found, then i can get a 10 inch convertor and have a 10" covertor with the 3500 stall hey thanks for all the help

Are you sure you need the 3500 stall, or is this just something your guessing at. Get all the information about your engine/diff ratio/tire size and give it to one of the many reputable HIGH STALL builders that have been mentioned on this board. Let them tell you what should work best with what you've got.
Guessing what you need is not the route to go.
