Yup.It's been done. A lot.

First off, welcome to the site and thank you for your service.

Yep, many threads about it here, but exhaust will be an issue. Off the shelf headers must be modified for use or custom headers made. There are supposedly log manifolds that will work, but there is always a debate on which ones while they are almost as expensive as headers and still require body modifications for use. Schumacher makes conversion engine mounts, but according to their site they are currently out of stock. Typical firewall/floor modification for transmission clearance is beating that seam down flat to the floor.

While it can be done, it will be difficult unless you have big pockets or some fabrication ability.

heres my 64 valiant with a 440 in it,,:) headers are the biggest thing. no one makes them and custom made can get expensive..

Thanks man always nice to know what your getting into sounds not so easy but doable 408 sounds a lot easier on the pocket

We had the exact same thread started by a member about a month ago. He wanted to do it for his autistic son.
440 in 65 cuda is gonna be pricy. $$ to play with if you do a small block.
Hardest part as mentioned is exhaust.
Welcome aboard!

Best way would be to put an aftermarket front suspension/ k frame in it to get rd of the torsion bars and stock steering. that, and getting rid of some inner fender would free up alot of space. still would have limited headder choices though. Fyi though, even wth a small block in an earlya body its a pain to put Headders in. do a search in it and ull see what I mean. there are more choices for Headders though.

Looks like a pain either way might have to rethink and do way more research Thanks Man

Man Joe that is sweet did you do this yourself it's awsome man

i did it all but the headers... dropping the motor and trans in is cake.. pretty much bolt in deal really. they make motor mounts now and to get the trans in you just need to clearance the firewall to floor seam some... i had about $1200 in to the headers though. and that was the mid 90's..
