That hacking as you call it was done way back in 1973 by lil johns performance in terra haute, Indiana and is actually quite clean.Tape around area was put there by gent that started resto. a few yrs. back to protect oldschool fenderwell headers he had ceramic coated.
Found some cool info. under back seat and researched. Car was campaigned in 1/8 mile at action dragway(now crossroads) in terra haute, indiana until the mid 80's.
Pretty cool and my build will be as nostalgia bracket racer not a back to original commando car.
