Hey guys,

I have a 904 with a factory stall converter behind a mildly built 318. I bought the trans used a few years ago, slapped it in the car and it has been working well since. The trans has a shift kit but is probably stock beyond that.

A couple of weeks ago the shift into 2nd gear started getting sloppy - like it didn't have a shift kit. No longer was it shifting into 2nd with firmness. Now the shift into 2nd is even more sloppy, and if I lay down any sort of power in 2nd gear it slips. The shift into 3rd is fine, as is all other operation of the trans.

Do you guys think it needs a rebuild? If so, is there a recommended rebuild kit I should get?

Shifts get sloppy with low fluid also, but if it is actually slipping in second you might as well just get it overwith and rebuild it.
Otherwise you risk doing hard parts damage AND a converter replacement.

Alright, I adjusted the band - and it took some serious adjustment. Once I was done there was only a couple of threads sticking out above the lonck nut and it wasn't that deep before the adjustment.

But... no change. Still shifting into 2nd with serious slop. I didn't juice it in 2nd to see if it would slip because I don't want to end up breaking it completely.

The car is just a basic cruiser with a couple of trips to the track each year. I'm making maybe 300 HP at the crank.
Assuming it is toasted, does anyone know what I want to get for a rebuild kit?

Since you live in Ontario, a good guy and great Company to contact would be SMR transmissions. 1-888-846-6603. Tell Pat what you've got and what you intend to do with the car and he'll get you the right stuff.
I've dealt with him in the past and like I said previously a good guy to deal with.

Thanks, looks like I'll be getting the parts from SMR.
