That time is getting close for me. I am planning on 1 1/8" plywood for the tops with ledgers on the walls to hold it up & as few legs at the front as possible. I have a couple different vices to mount, etc.

Shelving above of course.

Got any cool ideas I can build in?

I just built my work bench against the wall. I wanted it stout because I never know what the future holds and I also wanted to mount my reloading press to it. I started with a 2x6 for a back rail and built out from there.

Oh, and I made my top out of 3 pieces of 3/4 plywood. I screwed the first one to the framework, screwed and glued the second to that and glued the top piece on. I stained the whole shebang and then sealed the top with Min-wax poly.

I'm working on a custom setup with pallet racking. Got the idea from this guy:

Here's part 2 where he adds the steel work surfaces

I saved all the wood from the waterbed kaze. Made a great work bench, and already stained. Just cost me some carrage bolts.

Mine are typical benches. But they are tough as rocks. 2X6 on flat with 5/8" plywood on top. Built to beat on!

For Father's Day my wife bought me 3 PerforMax roller cabinets to take the place of 3 old junk prefab particle board cabinets. Btw... I had lots of fun busting them up with a sledge hammer ;)

Here's what I did to surround the new ones...

Because of how I mounted the lower wall-mounted 2x4s, I can stack boxes of nails, or smaller screw organizers, etc behind the roller cabs.

For welding, I had a steel plate cut so that I could lay it on top of one of the roller cabs for small projects.

The plate just stays on top of the roller cab when it's rolled under the counter.

Some good looking benches there guys. I built mine to be mobile. I'm always remodeling. Wheels on one end. I'm pretty sure I could set an A body on it.

The walls are insulated. 2" foam next to the cinder block outer walls with a 2x4 walls framed inside them with fiberglass insulation with new wiring & outlets tucked inside.

Painted 1/2" plywood on the walls so I can hang stuff anywhere I like.

The laser level is set at the height I want the bottom of the counter top to be at for tomorrow, so now is the time for any last minute cool ideas.

If anyone wants to stop by with Molsen to help out, that is fine too. ;-)

I am a gotta have wheels kind of guy..... My bench is a 4X6 1/4 steel on Industrial Casters. Anymore bench than that and it just ends up getting junked up...... I want the mobility and the ability to work 360 degrees. With you doing Upholstery work getting 4 corner access may be helpful for you....

Just some food for thought......

My upholstery shop does have movable benches & it is in another room.

This room will be the machine shop. Drill press, arbor presses, vices, taps, dies, parts washer, etc. No need for oil & guts on the upholstery this way. :)

The only 'wheels' in this room are securely mounted.

To the wall. ;-)

Lol.... I like everything on wheels. So I have no skin in this game.....

Good to hear you are keeping all that stuff separate. If things keep progressing for me with the car I will be sending you the buckets out of my 72 for a nice revamp....

my walls are strong enough to support the legs of the benches, so I tucked them in,
to make more room and not trip on them.

also high enough to store engines under.

top plate is trimmed to keep from misplacing small parts out the back
