If this gasket or seal didn't come off my car then it really doesn't matter what it is but if it did then it sure would help if I knew what it is. I have a 67 Dart with a 273/904. I pulled the engine for a 318 swap. I also removed the k frame, radiator, upper control arms, and steering column. Found it under the car. I thought it was a seal for the steering column but seems a little too small. The hole is about 1 13/16 inches in diameter and height is about 11/16 of an inch. Thanks for any help! Not sure if this is the right forum because I don't know what this thing is.

It looks like it was on a ball joint maybe.

You sure it wasn't from the steering column. Mine looked like that. I kinda forgot to put the new one on. Luckily I'm rebuilding the motor right now so I can afford the 10 minutes to get it out on

@Phily- where did the seal/gasket go on your steering column?

Thanks everybody for quick replies. It is made of rubber and don't think it's the breather grommet since I never removed breather from old engine. I am really hoping it didn't come from the steering column. Don't think it did, I have the lower gasket where the column goes through the floor. This thing does not fit over the column tube. It's not from a throw out bearing since I have auto trans.
Maybe it is the remnant of an upper ball joint boot? That would be great because I have new ball joints and boots and that would mean this thing is just trash.

I'll throw out torsion bar grease boot just to make it interesting

Diameter is too big. (1 13/16)
If it has steel under the rubber on the edge it's for sure a ball joint boot.
Bend it and see.

I think it is what's left of the steering column tube lower seal

If it isn't torn around the perimeter, and came off your car....I'd be concerned.

It does have steel under or embedded in the top ring- it did bend. However, I just looked at my upper control arms and the ball joints and dust boots are still on them and mostly intact except for the narrow part by the stud.

@65dartman- do you mean the column seal by the floor or is there a seal between the coupler and the white plastic bearing?

Torsion bar boots or seals don't have a lip like that do they? Now that it doesn't look like it is a ball joint cup or seal I am getting concerned.

In Naval aviation, we call this FOD. Foreign Object Debris/Damage. You should see me when I lose a tool or piece of anything. It's all hands on deck to try and find it. FOD kills! I'm with everyone else who said ball joint boot.

Kinda looks like the idler arm boot. For sure suspension related

At the bottom of the steering column tube is a rubber seal that is secured to the bottom of the lip of the tube which basically seals the tube to keep debris and fumes from traveling up the column into the cabin. When I rebuilt a column for my 65 Barracuda, the main part of the seal was gone (the part that is installed on the tube lip leaving what looks like what you have.

I'll check into the lower column tomorrow as well as looking at the boots from the other old suspension pieces to see if I see anything. Thanks for all the suggestions everybody.

You found someones round toit. Good for you. Now you can do all those things you said you would do when you get a round toit. Merry Christmas

I am not guessing at this. I own a ruler. It for sure is not a ball joint boot do to the diameter mentioned. It is a tierod, pitman arm or idler arm boot for sure. I have been working on these cars for many years and never did I see a boot this diameter on any column. If you want I have these in the shop and I can take a pic for you. Steve

I thought those were smaller in diameter than the ball joint boots. A pic of those showing their sizes would be great. Thanks very much.
