Battery in Trunk - 64/65/66 Barracuda - Pics please....

the usual fight agaist cabin fever... doing stupid things on my car... :lol:

as i´m just working on "getting rid of the hood with the hemi scoop" by re-locating the air cleaner etc. i also came across relocating the battery into the trunk (to use the former battery-space for something like a cold-air-induction)
so one leads to the next...
i purchased one of those "battery boxes for boats" - and realized: this thing is pretty tall and the trunk of the fish is pretty small :drama:

so i started to cut the top of the box... and now the lid wont close anymore:BangHead:

before i start to mess up the next box, i wanna ask who else has placed the battery in the trunk of his early barracuda and cld post some pics or give some good hints, what works best. (pics from later models are also welcome of course )

(kill switch etc is allready sorted out: pull-cable right through the right back-up lens)

btw... it does not really have to full fill the NHRA-rules but the battery has to be in a vented box to pass the local rules here in Germany (or it has to be a Optima-Unit etc)
 
Not a 1st Gen, but this is a pic from a '69 Barracuda fastback - hope that helps? (Found this in a Hot Rod article)

Thats where mine is on my 65. passenger rear side, I welded a lip and a bolt in lip to secure battery like modern cars have. Ran a big welding cable up to the front to an isolated block where the battery was and ran the ground to the trunk unibody next to battery with a big *** star washer. Your supposed to seal battery in box so no gasses collect in your trunk, especially in a 65 with its cabin vents right above the battery.
 
our application may be bit different than yours. Ground battery through trunk to frame. Then ran ground through passenger compartment to firewall stud. Ran power through switch, through passenger compartment up to firewall stud.

Needed room for fuel cell. So battery box (from Summit) is "slightly" wedged under trunk edge. But clears trunk lid and mechanism. Bolted down through trunk.

It's all wired now. This pic is when we fitted it.

My sealed Optima was purchased new in about 2002. It's still in there. Cheapest battery I ever bought;in the long run.
I installed it very similar to the poster in #2, just further forward and over to the right, so I could still open the hatch. I put the switch behind it, on the bumper end,and little further to the right.

It has one from original owner - stamped 2006 and still working strong. :)
 
just to show how i ended up with the "Battery in trunk" task...

i purchased a Optima Red (after learned that most battery boxes are simply to big for that small barracuda trunk) mounted some 10 mm (a bit bigger in diameter than 3/8") studs and mounted all on the passenger side of the car

kill switch is an european FIA ( Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile which is the european organisation for saftey regulations etc for racing sports) approved switch which will be actuated by pulling a cable with t-bar which i monted in the back up lens by removing the plastic stud with a hot knife.
