putting a 340 sreet strip motor in my 63 dart 2 dr what do you guys use for exhaust off the motor ?that wont kill all the power has very small engine compartment and steering is in the way thanks

Not sure ther is much you can do. I had the 68-71 340 logs on my 66. Pricey headers are the best choice imo.

I would recommend Doug's headers. They are pricey, sometimes you see a used set on FABO reasonably priced! Good Luck

63-66 abodies are in a class all by themselves..

if you don't want to cut the fenderwells..
you can go dougs (smaller tube and collector), or tti headers (larger tubes and collectors)

or just buy fenderwell headers for it..

none of the above are cheap though.

You can order dougs headers off of autozone website and their promo codes work for stuff like that

I've linked a thread in which I started for a 340 in a 66 barracuda. Hemi446 was able to provide some detailed photos of his 340 with Dougs headers on his 65 dart wagon

As stated, Doug's, TTi's, fenderwells. Not mentioned are Spit fire shorties. You didn't mention if you had power steering, if you do and you want to keep it, that cancels most choices.

I personally have used Doug's and know others who have used the Spitfires, they work.

Get in a pinch and you can use the 64 to 66 273 manifolds, though the above selection would be a little better.

Good luck!

With a little creativity, Magnum manifolds can be made to fit, but with manual steering only. The right side is pretty much tight against the inner fender. A couple strategically placed dents and motor mount shims should help, as would having 1/8" - 1/4" milled from the manifold port face. The left side requires shortening the outer steering column tube and replacing the pot coupling with a u-joint. Even then a bit of grinder work on the manifold is required. Like the right side, having the port face milled will help. The early large outlet Magnum manifolds flow as good as any cast iron, and can be had fairly cheaply.

There's just no cheap + easy + good flowing solution for early A bodies. You get 2 out of 3.
Cheap + easy (OEM 64-66 manifolds) flow poorly.
Cheap + good flow (Magnum manifolds or fender well headers) some hassle to fit and hook to exhaust system.
Easy + good flow (TTI, Dougs or early 340 manifolds) not exactly cheap!

What power level are you expecting from your 340?

I second the Dougs. The 63 however never came with a V8. As such, the engine compartment was not designed for a V8. The wiper motor bulge will interfere with the distributor in a small block, so you will have to make a modification there. A 383 would not require that. ;)

well forget the manifolds, spitfires and dougs..

only choices are TTI or fenderwell and the fenderwells are probably the best choice for that. or have a set custom made for ya.

I have a 340 in my 63, I used tti, and love them. Look and sound great.

How was the firewall issue and trans tunnel.
Just had to bend the lip a little flat. I have a 727 from a 68 dart in it as well

I used Dougs on my 340 in my 64. The tricky parts were the 4 speed and the power steering.
