I'm curious what some of you guys have used in place of the factory particle board crap that crumbles to dust when you touch it. I basically destroyed the original trunk divider the first time I pulled the back seats out to clean my '70 Duster. I'm thinking of some sort of "sheet" plastic maybe 1/8" thick ABS-type stuff then putting a layer of aluminum roofing repair (Poor Man's Dynamat) to reduce noise. I want something that is easy to cut so I can get it fitting in just right. Thoughts?

Masonite board?

Looks like a decent option (had to Google it didn't know what it was lol), kind of just looks like the factory stuff though...? And it does deteriorate over time, you have an idea of how much time that might be?

I used a thin sheet of aluminum, because I had a battery in the trunk, and drag raced, and had to meet NHRA regulations. - No back seat, but could have had one. -- Apparently the idea is, that it is a fire shield.

I would think that it would out live both of us unless it got soaking wet.
Hardboard is another name for it I think.
You would be familiar with it as "pegboard" maybe. Except without holes.
Just my idea. I'm trying to remember what I may have used for package shelf topping.
A different need anyway. Wrong thickness.

I used some corrugated plastic to make interior walls for my 1st boat. Covered it with indoor/outdoor carpet.

72 in. x 36 in. x 5/32 in. Twinwall Plastic Sheet-COR-3672 - The Home Depot

I think that's what I'm looking for. RPMagoo aluminum would be the best way to go but probably more expensive and not as easy to work with, also my car isn't a race car. Well at least not for now lol. adriver I will take a look at the Masonite board as well see which one I like best when I can actually touch it and look at it in person.

Khalid, Masonite is interesting.. .". To be honest' "....If you are still in Colorado.. a piece of Masonite it's,will work.. whatever you do,you need to seal it,(without exposure to the elements,) with at least a outdoor rattle can, epoxy paint..

I've seen the material in mind sold as vinyl roofing. I know it as above ground swimming pool wall

Must vary a lot by climate. My original was a bit beat up, but otherwise completely intact. I replaced it with a new factory style one off ebay. I think it was $30 shipped. If I didn't already have that one I probably would have grabbed a near perfect one I saw in a yard this past summer. I think I saw them on DMT too

My car originally came from California and AFAIK was never east of Colorado. When I got the car the driver's door panel was already gone and the passenger side was in bad shape; I broke a corner off just trying to remove it but I did save it. The trunk divider was almost impossible to get out without breaking it. I'm going after something better than factory for sound-deadening and heat insulation which was kind of a joke on these cars anyway. I plan to cover as much of the interior with the aluminum roofing repair stuff as possible; did the roof a couple years ago and that made a huge difference especially for heat in the sun, next I want to do trunk divider and under the rear seats/wheelwells area. The doors need it badly but I need to fix my flimsy-*** door glass hardware first lol.

I second aluminum but I also did mine too due to fuel cell and batteries in the trunk, but if your interested i know a company that will cut you any length and width and ship it to you, price is good, just need to cut the wheel wells to clear. This is part of mine but finished now, even made slots for the rear seat belts to come through.
