As far as the existing harness you may have to shorten a wire here or there (such as oil sender) but for the most part the connections are all the same. Follow the instructions for the MSD unit. Here's a diagram for a '70 Plymouth - essentially the same. http://www.70duster440.com/EngineCompart70.PDF

My alternator is a Duralast DL 7516 I want to change wiring to that alternator any suggestions on how to wire that I believe I can eliminate some existing components by doing that am I right

Oh yeah, sorry - in my haste I forgot about the earlier single field alternator vs 70 and up dual field, and voltage regulators. Here's some more info: The Early MoPar (60’s and 70’s) Wiring and How It Can Be Upgraded
no please don't be hard on yourself I appreciate this help my alternator I believe has an internal regulator so I don't think from my limited understanding that the link you gave me will work as mine has the internal voltage regulator any thoughts on that again would be appreciated you're very kind and I thank you

The Duralast DL 7516 is a pretty common replacement Chrysler alternator so it doesn't have an internal regulator.

When I looked up the stats on it it said alternator regulator is intrical that is why I thought it meant internal I appreciate it and if you have a part number for the external regulator I could use that again sorry for tying you up so long thank you for your help

If it is easier for you I would be glad to do a private message and give you my phone number up to you whatever is the most convenient

I'm not opposed to PM'ing but there is a wealth of knowledge here on this site - and sharing can benefit others. I'm sure others will chime in with tips and suggestions...

To use a later regulator (and Autozone, just as an example) you could look up the VR733 and the Duralast 249 voltage regulator connector - then wire them in using the diagrams in the link above.

Thank you and good evening for now

No problem - good luck.

FWIW, if you don't want to upgrade to the later regulator and wiring, you could just install the earlier alternator and regulator. I think the upgrade would be worthwhile.
