Did Dodge put the 5.2 cam. 430
Into the later 5.9?
2000, 2001, 2002?
I have a late 5.9 with the all in one pulley/balancer....
Thanks

To my understanding, the 318 mag cam was a tad hotter than the 360 mag cam. What did change on the late year 360 mags was the divider was raised in the kegger intake.

This is what I have seen also.
I have read articles that said the 5.2 cam could be used as a mild upgrade over the stock 5.9 cam, and this agrees with what 318willrun said.

Don't lieve they did. But the 318 cam is like .02 more lift. Not really a big improvement.

The cam in my 360/300hp crate motor was 195@50 and done by 4800 rpm. Get yours reground by Oregon cams.

I had a 2002 5.9 cam reground by Bullet Cams and this is what they told me it measured out at stock:

Duration @ 0.050: I/E 189*/194*
Lobe separation angle: 111*
Lift @ cam: I/E 0.273"/0.278"

Valve lift w/ 1.6 rockers would be: I/E 0.437”/0.445”

Now this wasn't a new cam and had some wear, so even these numbers are going to be an exact spec for a new one. But they are a very close match to someone who had a '98 cam run through a similar machine: Stock Cam Specs Measured - DodgeTalk : Dodge Car Forums, Dodge Truck Forums and Ram Forums

No idea if the 5.2 cam was smaller or not. I would bet even if it was bigger, it would be a big waste of time to swap it because it wouldn't be much bigger. But that's just my opinion.

Looks like pre-Magnum lift numbers to me. I would bet the specs aren't for the Magnum 5.9, and the measured numbers from my 2002 cam make it seem even more likely.

Due to the 5.9 being released a year after the 5.2, I am convinced there are all kinds of specs for the 5.9 that I think are actually related to the roller cam 360 and not the Magnum 5.9.
Another example is the intake valve size for the 5.9 where it seems most books show a 1.88 diameter valve and yet I have yet to see proof that there is any difference between the 5.2 and 5.9 cylinder head, and can't find a 1.88 valve listed in any of the parts books for a 5.9.

My guess is, when the 5.2 was released the spec's were updated to reflect the changes, and when the 5.9 was released the next year, either some one figured the specs where already updated, or they did a rotten job of updating them.

Either way, my measured numbers are pretty different than the above specs, so I wouldn't trust the published specs.

Just my $0.02
