I've been doing some research on line and can't find the answers I'm looking for. I believe I have a centerforce diaphragm clutch in my BB 4 speed dart and the clutch pedal is still a bear to push and hold down. I'm a pretty healthy strong guy but after driving in stop and go traffic it takes a toll. Assuming all my clutch linkage is up to snuff and my bushings and z bar are in order can I change the over center spring to reduce clutch pedal effort? I will say that because I have older tti headers on the car and it is a 4 speed a friend of mine had to modify the z bar to work with the headers. I'm wondering if that change in geometry could be a reason for the hard pedal. If I can change the spring do I need to go thicker more coils or thinner with less coils?

If you have a diaphragm clutch, you shouldn't be running an overcenter spring on the pedal at all. You're supposed to remove them completely for a diaphragm clutch.

Agreed if he does have the diaphragm plate I'm surprised it doesn't have a catch in it someplace IE acts like it sticking -- been there done that

Get rid of it and get a double disk set up they work great, no pedal effort.
Once you have one you will never go back to a single disk. More $$$ up front but way better in the long run plus they can take all the power you can give them.

Thank you for the advice on a new clutch setup.

I'll bet something is binding in the linkage somewhere, you might want to start pulling things apart and checking for dry or worn out bushings. I would check everything from the clutch pedal to the the throw out bearing, you'll be amazed what a little bit of grease can do.
