Ok listened to a lot of mombo, jumbo from u guys but ,I think I know best from reading gobs of stuff from people who Know!!! I'm going to try a hydraulic cam first, tried many progams, the camquest, quarter jr and others and if I go up higher than 260-265@050duration the solids definitely have the edge, but at a lower duration they don't make much more power than the hyd but then I'm not wanting to go any higher that 6,000-6,200 tops So the winners are the XE295HL comp 251-257 dur@050 with 565 lift or the 60305 Lunati which is 242/252 dur@050 and 533/552 duration probably going with the Lunati as I love them and theyhave been good to me for 30yrs,plus love their Micro Trol lifters,if I don't make 565-600 hp then. Next year I'll get a set of Mancini Harland sharp copies for 469.95 and try a solid or Hyd roller,do'nt want to go any higher than 650hp and don't think I won't make it because I do everything right, MY last 406 sbc made 625hp with 285cfm heads and my one before that made 675hp with a set of stovck oval port truck heads with just 2.19 and 1.88 valves instead of 2.07 and 1.72 ex BBC heads and big heavy trw pistons and 12-1 compression..So I just want a vote on the Lunati or the Comp cam XE that's all No other comments please about not enough head flow,my engine WILL make it with 285@550 lift

"Next year I'll get a set of Mancini........."? Does that mean you're running stock rockers now?

I'm not a big Comp cams fan. IMO Lunati cams are of a higher quality. My vote goes to the Voodoo. Have you looked at the Lunati 60313?

yes may give the stamped rockers a whirl,as they are set up right! spaced to be right on the valve stem, shimmed under the shafts for proper height,,and have had custom pushrods made, they are as light as possible and I have low pressure springs 120 on seat but only 340 open,so see how it goes because if I go adjustable might as well change springs and go solid or hyd roller, but I want to prove everyone wrong I want 600hp with a hyd flat tappet
We will see how it goes......

lookin all around for the 313 lunati then I find it ITS A Hyd Roller!!,don't want to spend 100$ springs,460$ roller rockers,300$ for the cam,250-450$ for the roller lifters! For 1300 I could run a street solid roller and make 700 hp easy, think I will go with the 200 bucks for the flat tappet cam and lifters (Micro Trol) and save the 1100.00 and give up the 20-25 hp. I think the solid flat tappet cam would also save me about 500 bucks and make more power than the Hyd roller. Personally I think that the hyd rollers are the biggest waste of money there is,the lifters are way too heavy, they fall off at 6000-6400 rpm and the good lifters are over 600 bucks ..I'll go with a Hyd flat tappet followed by a solid Flat tappet w/tool steel 74gram lifters, then forget they invented a hyd roller and go to a street solid lifter, and lastly go to a full race solid roller,a solid will go 7000rpm and solid roller will pop before over reving.....how much more HP do u think a 242/252 hyd roller will make over a hyd flat tappet 242/252 the lift is neligable 552 to 565, peanuts they will both drop off at 62-6300 rpm waste of cash to me..........

You can only say Comp or Lunati Jim...

True yeah.

Well, "because", and I quote him, "I do everything right," I think he should pick out his own LunaCompti camshaft.

At least we know it will be done right.

Yes with no mumbo jumbo.

And Tuesday's weather is sunny, warm, rainy in the evening....

I'd spend double on stock cam before I'd ever use those flexi-flyer stamped rocker arms.
Why get crazy with big lift and long duration cams (and the required springs) then give it all back with deflection? S/F....Ken M

Ya no ****..live and learn!!!

FWIW, IMO, its more of a lift loss issue even before I think about anything else. The standard ratio rockers are less than advertised.

An upgraded rocker provides an accurate ratio with increase strength and stiffness. Also zero heat cycles.
(Longer life)
I beileve it should work it's way into the budget. Somehow, someway, they should make an appearance. I do realize this is a tight financial issue with retirees. To this end, Hughesengines has some reasonably priced roller rockers.

Edit to add the below;

I run mumbo cams all the time. I don't have any trouble getting the power I need from them and they're cheaper.

For me it's Jumbo. If a little is good, a lot is mo' betta.

Not according the you but mumble-jumble-ire is interesting. It's slightly stiffer and hotter. It requires a bit of extra lube spitting on it.

OK, I read through the original post. You have a 406. That's all I got out of that. How can you (we ) pic out a good cam if that's all we know. Fill me in.
