Do slant six swaps make you feel guilty?

I would regret it if the car was a true low mile survivor that ran and drove perfectly as is.
Other than that, i would do what i want to the car, and don't look back.

hell that wouldn't even bother me.. like that gold 12,000 mile dart in the classified section. yea i'd tear that six out in a heartbeat..

jamies 70 dart is an original paint car with a little over 100k on it. pretty much all original and damn near spotless. the six ran and drove great. could drive it anywhere and get 18 or so mpg.. man was that a boring *** car to drive.. no passing power no merging power just boring as hell.. took us about 5 years to get where we wanted to be and started gathering parts for the 360 swap.. oh man the car is so much more fun to drive now. it will never go back to a six and i will make sure if in the situation again with a similar car that it gets a v8 sooner. can't believe we waited so long to do the v8 swap.. :)

If it were a super nice ride & somebody that I know wanted it WITH the /6, I'd pass it along. I'm not going to rip up a resto or stupidly nice survivor. Otherwise, LMAO!!!!!!

I love the "thud" sound a slant six makes as it hits the ground when I kick them off the tailgate of my truck at the scrapyard.

At car shows,Ive ran into this situation with my 1965 Dart /6, factory Hurst 4spd, convertible.
Many say, put in a small block, which I've thought about many times.
This car is a documented 1-23 Darts built with this combination, for 65.
With the rarity of this car, I just dont have the heart to do it.

cool car and all but that thing is modified all over the place anyway so a motor swap isn't gonna hurt it any more... i'd just store the original stuff in a corner is i was that worried about it..:)

Nothing wrong with a modded /6. Everything has its + and - . Just don't expect to go too far out of practical. Souped up a 170 when poor gas made me pull my favorite Commando engine. It was nice and would pull way past anything it's size and get 30+ mpg on the highway, but not in the same league with a HP small block.

I know that sound all too well... This photo was taken over the weekend. Forklift operator did me a solid and pulled it off the truck for me and then dropped all 580 pounds of it onto the ground.

Love it.

Also - this is why I trashed it...

This flew inches past my face when the rod punched the hole through the block:

Yeaaaaa, that's a problem. Ya didn't want to try JB Weld?

I'm about to do my 2nd original low mile A body slant to smallblock swap. It makes me feel guilty every time. Poor little 70,000 mile slant was born and lived a great survivor life since 1970/1973 to get seperated. Just makes me feel sorta bad that I separate that bond. Dumb I know.

Hmmm....
I see the slant six engine sorta like I see other things like booze, butt sex or cleaning their house every day.
'"Great for others to do if they want but certainly not something that I am interested in".

I like seeing them, I like knowing that they are out there but I do not want one in a car that I own. I have had some slow 318 cars but they still sounded decent. The slanty sounds only slightly better than fart can import cars.

Buddy of mine has a '65 Dart and has a line on a low mileage hipo 273. I've got first dibs on his low mileage 225. I plan on upgrading from my 170 to that 225.
This is like a flat chested woman getting a B cup boob job. :poke:

I love having a V8 more than I loved having the slant. Plain and simple. Back when I had a 225 people would always give me crap for not having a V8 since the car looked fairly aggressive. I'd never had a rough idling V8 in anything before and it's really something I wanted/needed to experience. Plus... 340 4 speed just sounds nice and it's a respectable combo. 225 3 speed just got me laughed at.

That being said, I did feel kind of bad yanking out the 6 cylinder. My grandpa bought it new but the original slant died in 1980. Since the motor wasn't original I didn't mind converting to a small block. The attachment to the slant was just sentimental, and I know I could always convert back if I wanted to. Will I? No. 340's rule.

Generally speaking, I don't mind when people pull 225's in favor of something with more cylinders unless the car is rare or in exceptionally great condition. Most slant cars aren't that special though and would be 1000x more fun with a big thumpin' great V8.

Dart had a locked / with a 3 on the tree...linkage was beyond fubar....big hole in the floor from an attempt to install a floor shifter...then it sat in the desert for a long time...getting an LQ4 (LS) and 4l80e

Man, I gotta say, that very well might be the best looking dart sport I have ever seen!!! I'm normally not a fan of 73+ darts but THAT I like!!!

I had a neighbor that had an E body with a slant, he had plenty of other E bodys, I asked him if he was going to take the slant out, he said no it might be more rare than his 6 pac cars but not worth more.
His cars were and still are original.
