howdy all. I'm going to be purchasing a ductless heat/cooling system for my house. Just wondering if anybody out there can recommend me a brand and/or advice on buying and installing a system like this. thanks

Mitsubishi is a popular brand, but there are many others. I think they are all made in Asia. There are many possibilities. One outdoor unit can serve several indoor fan coils in different rooms. The advantage is that you can have individual temperature control or turn some rooms off. The systems are reliable, quiet, and efficient.

Even though there is no ductwork, the installed cost is not cheap. And the heating capacity drops off quite a bit in low ambient temperatures. I notice you are in Minnesota - yikes!

Yes I am lol. I was aware that they can't really be used at low temps, but from what I hear they have gotten a lot better. Thanks for your input!

Here's Mitsubishi's site. They have some pretty good advise for colder climates. Heating | Getting More From a Ductless Mini Split in Chilly Weather: 7 Tips

The best advise would be to find a contractor who has been installing these system for awhile in colder areas.

We have a smaller home and have thought about this too. But living in an area that can get to double digits below zero kind of puts a bit of a crimp in things doesn't it.
Hope you can find your answers.

We installed a Daikon (SP) ductless heat pump/AC in my place. Just be aware no heat pump produces heat if the outside temp drops below 20 degrees +-. We installed it for the AC, not the heat but it was only a $200 adder to have the heat option.
