How big is your TV?
125" projection system. I watch regular TV and movies on it. Netflix too. If you want the TV to dominate the room, then nothing is better at this time than projection TV (for the money). I only have a 1080P projector (with 3D) and even at 125" diagonal, it is very sharp. The bottom photo was taken with the flash. I normally watch with all room lights off, but I have various lighting levels, including red background lights if others are watching with me.
As for a LCD, OLED, etc. bigger is better in my opinion. Considering that your viewing position is optimal too (I.e. Not too close). I would recommend a 70" TV for 8-10' away minimum. I also would go with the OLED.
