Anybody heard of these?

Yes definitely.

Watching the video you could hear the difference but if you watch, he plays with the throttle between the two.
Without the plate he holds the throttle open slightly longer than with. Maybe this is why it sounds more sluggish without the plate?
Maybe I'm looking into it a little too far but that was the first thing I noticed.

I find things like these hard to believe.
With all the money and research with Nascar and other racing bodies and carb and automotive manufacturers that they would of stumble across anything truly revolutionary. Not saying the average Joe can't but less likely. Plus I don't see any claims, no it gets X amount more power or fuel mileage. But there not overly expensive to try.

First time I've heard of or have seen it, Rusty. It does seem that Holley would add a similar small part to their catalogue if it makes that big of a difference though.

This link is along the same lines of thought regarding improved atomization, but takes it one step further. I am having this done to my 3 Holley 2bbls as I post this. Turn the volume down to eliminate the "music".

Snake oil BS plain and simple.
You notice they put a crapload of time and effort into convincing that it works and NO information proving it?
That's a clue called marketing.

This is my thought too. I just wanted to share.

Some one was making one with a fine screen saw it on some show.

I am not sure in the video clip if the "hand" is applying full throttle on every clip, looks like it varies from half throttle to full throttle depending on the reaction of the motor (more so than how fine the spray is). Not convinced it benefits anything.

cept the guy selling them. :D
Remember the baseplates they were selling a few decades ago with a fan that was spun by intake air and it went between the carb and intake?
They gave some ridiculous number in better fuel economy from better atomization, but not ONE person that spent the money on one claimed better economy ever.

Al it did was make money for the seller.

The next one will be mini tornadoes that fit inside each Venturi.
Right? or some twisted section of plate you install in the intake runners.
Not that long ago someone had a 12v heated screen that went in the intake under the carb, and that one held my attention for a couple of seconds. :D
Never heard of it doing anyone any good though.

One of the more expensive scams was the aftermarket Hydrogen generators they put in cars.
Thousands of dollars and very tiny difference if any.
One of my Wife's friends wanted to buy into a home business doing this and for me to do installs for them and I flat refused.

Do they still make the intake gaskets with the atomizer screens?

I hope not.
All it does is drop the CFM your carb can get into the engine.
Ever notice how much a screen door limits the air coming through it?
Same exact thing.

Rusty, as technical editor I feel its your responsibility to buy one for each style carb out there and run a before and after comparision with graphs and charts and a paragraph on the back of each one. Oh wait, that's what the seller is supposed to do. Why no numbers, just a hand held video. And how much does a little piece of stamped steel cost, $40? And another thing, Holley, Edelbrock, Carter and all the rest of the carb manufacturers who spend gazillions on RandD missed this? It'll be at the dollar store next week.

It looks like it MAY atomize the pump shot. So my thought is, it won't help mileage unless you drive down the road rolling in& out of the throttle, in which case, you probably don't care about mileage. Forget about HP improvements, cause you measure that @ WOT.
4 speed jockeys get 3 or 4 pump shots each time they wind up though. Hmmmmmm

What I noticed in the video was it seemed he was working the throttle quicker when the "atomizer plate" was installed.
That's what caused the quicker revving.

This little gadget could, possibly, maybe affect mpg but it would take a big "IF" working out perfectly.

IF the pump shot atomization is "improved" to the point where the needed acceleration fuel volume and/or duration could be dialed back without any negative results, then overall city MPG could improve.

It's a sad fact that a good % of a carb's pump shot never gets to the cylinder in time to make much difference. This because some fuel is winds up just wetting the intake and ports walls. No biggy for a carb because this "lost" fuel is simply made up for by pumping in EXCESS volume.

A small improvement of city mpg of an MPI system is due to the fact that since its fuel injectors are spraying all its fuel on the back of the intake valve, its acceleration enrichment(pump shot) doesn't "lose" so much fuel to the intake track. This results in better throttle response and mpg.

Well if you apply common sense to the possibility that there might be some truth to this, don't you think Holley and Edelbrock would have already added this 10 cent piece of tin to there carbs?

Yeah cause it aint like they just started buildin carburetors yesterday.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I seem to remember as if it were a bad dream last nite a certain 2.8L Xbody GM engine that wouldn't run for S**T as soon as the
choke started opening because ...........................
