Who here actually has working parking brakes on your automatic cars? No not your new car, Im talking your Dart, Duster, etc....

I do but that is only because I just finished reassembling the car with all new e-brake parts. They will likely never get used and will likely be seized up if they were ever needed.

mine works - it's a matter of inspection here, can't pass without it. - you just looking to get a count or is there a question here too?

same here, I destroyed my front parking brake cable, when I started stripping my basket case 68 fish, and installed a dana 60 w/ disc brakes. got all the emergency cables hooked up and ran in the stock location in back, but never tried to finish the front or put the amer. brake handle back in it.

Its not required for inspection here and I dont even have the parts to make mine operational. So just curious how many people actually have theirs hooked up.

I added them on my 8 1/4 rear disks just in case, it was a pia also to make the parts at first.

I am afraid to try my Swinger. It will probably lock up. My 66 is a 4 speed so I use it all the time.

Yep, it works. Required for inspection here too. Will be registering it soon. If I go antique plate, then no inspection, but would like to at least start with everything working...

I cut mine cause the cable was junk. It locked up when I got curious.

Swapped to a 4 speed and bought all new.
Really wasn't hard at all to install.
Nice knowing I have a backup if blow a brake line or something.

Same here the rear disks work great but who knows especially the way I beat on the car....

I should clarify though - I have a Ford 9" with disc brakes... it was a simple matter of buying some cables and the right clevis ends.. hooked up a hand lever - done.

Mine all work, 66, 69 and now the 67 with rear disc brakes. (Thanks Hoppy)

Mine works and use it all the time. Comes from owning all sticks before and living in hilly terrain.

Mine was working until a few days ago when this happened...
I have actually had to use them in an emergency in 2 other cars in my lifetime. -was very thankful that they worked!!!

All of mine work, none of them have ever seized or locked, and I always use them.

The pawl in the transmission that engages when you put the car in park is NOT intended to hold the car in place by itself. Not only that, but should you have a hydraulic brake failure your emergency brake could be the only way you've got to stop the car without major damage to your driveline or even the whole car if you're unable to get it stopped in a timely manner. That's why I hate it that they're called "parking" brakes now. They used to be called emergency brakes for a reason, and that's exactly why they should work and be kept in good repair.

But I've rode with you.. I know why you need them. :poke:

Well, time to search for some parts. I do not have any of the guts for my drums (10 x 2.5"). Thanks all for the reply. Much appreciate for the input from everyone.

Mine worked in my Barracuda with the 7 1/4 when I bought it. I changed it to an 8 1/4 and hooked everything back up, adjusted it at the splitter and the new works fine. Actually used it up on the lift when tuning my engine in park.

What do you need? The e-brake levers? I may have a set of those laying around if that's all you need. The rest of the hardware you can purchase in kits from rockauto pretty cheap.

Correct. I never had the levers. If you have them that would be awesome, just let me know.

I've got a set. They're the slot style instead of the pin style, but that shouldn't be a problem because most of the shoes have provisions for both kinds.
