Im in the middle of a build that will include a gen 3 392 Hemi in my 67 dart.

currently undecided on the air intake. What are you folks using?

Myself I'm using Edelbrock air-gap, very mild build on a 318. Works well for me.

Intake manifold or air intake? Carb'd Gen 3?

My engine sucks atmospheric from heaven to the top of the hood then through a filter and then thru a big old hole in the hood and BAM! into the airhorn.
Yeah, that's right, my filter is on top of the hood. When I open the hood, you can stare straight down into the boosters. The carb is,of course, sealed to the underside of the hood.

Oh, did you mean intake? Oh, in that case, I have used the factory C.I.spread-bore and TQ, and a Weiand X-CELerator, and currently the AirGap. My butt-dyno couldn't really tell the difference. I really really liked the the TQ tho.

Whichever one you choose, it needs to be one that completely encloses the filter from under hood heat and has an intake entrance that is on the outside of the engine compartment, such as through a fender well, or through the radiator support for best results.

I've got a ModMan intake with a 4 bbl throttle body on my 5.7 build. Just a standard style air cleaner on top of it. Looks like a carb setup, but have the intake drilled for port injection.

This is my air intake on my '69 Cuda. Custom fabricated air box sealed to the rad support. Intake temperatures are usually 100 F lower than underhood temps. You really should try to get cool outside air for the intake - Hemis do not like high intake temperatures. I opened up the opening in the rad support a bit as well.

Jim, the CFM flow info on K&N's is hard to find, but the one you have mounted there is likely too small for that Gen 3, especially if its modified at all.

I found this out when I started checking my set-up out. I ended up with a custom air filter set-up from a couple of guys in Canada. You could do some cutting and put a proper sized K&N on there.

The performance difference between what I had and what I'm running now was significant. You can feel the difference from the midrange and top-end big time.

The 6.1 Hemi is a stock production engine - no mods other than headers and 90 mm TB. I bought a bigger air filter but could not make it fit in the airbox I installed. K&N's do have higher air flow capability but don't filter the air as well as other filters. (Their oil filters don't filter oil very well either!!)

I picked up polished alum pipe and a silicone coupler from frozenboost.com. They sell multiple sizes, angles and lengths.... then it's just cut to fit your desires...
