I kind of did the same but instead I used a piece of threaded rod cut to length and then added washers to space it away from the head and get the pulley lined up. Also held up for 7 or so years, no issues whatsoever. For the bracketry I ordered a set off eBay because I converted from A/C and didn't want to use the giant factory bracket that holds all that stuff together.
