using shortshaft A833 OD trans... bench seat ( original).. I am thinking the F,M body used an Inland mechanism.. rather not use that... so a Hurst box and what handle will work best? OK so I might need to heat and bend and/or weld! ha
anyone HERE with a decent setup that won't break the bank?? looks means little.

Find a 80's pickup w/OD833 in a junk yard, it will have a hurst shifter mechanism and a long enough handle to heat and bend to your needs, only draw back will be the rubber isolated handle mount that's usually worn out but that's easily overcome with a drill and two nuts and bolts to mount the handle solid to the shifter like in the late 60's.
This is what I have in my 72 Dart.

Just picked up a 81 Dodge truck for a possible donor vehicle with 318 and the a833. The shifter is very sloppy..it is of a round tubular design shifter and thus I was thinking it was the Inland variety as the Hurst would maybe be a flat shaft...can anyone confirm the round tubular shifter as Inland....thanks. I can snap a photo if needed....

It should be a Hurst shifter or possibly an ITM shifter which is basically a Hurst shifter made by a different supplier. The maker will be stamped into the side of the shifter.
Trucks used a round shifter handle in those years which were rubber isolated where it mounts into the shifter unit, the rubber usually deteriorates making for a very sloppy shifter.
Brewers does have a rebuild kit for the handle mount or you can cut the handle mount apart and drill two holes and bolt the handle directly to the shifter, I like the drill and bolt method personally.

thanks for some of the background info...I admit I have only gone so far as getting the truck to the house...not had an opportunity to dig into it yet....was reading what I could to try to get up to speed so when I do get the opportunity I will maybe be able to recognize what it is I am messing with.
