Started my resto in September. Found a 62 Lancer GT for a mega bargain price. Bought it to be an immediate flip, but kinda liked it, so I was conflicted. It was all there, but with years of neglect and no paperwork. Dragged it home on a trailer, and much to my wife's displeasure I stuck it in the garage and began my poor-man's amateur restoration.

First thing...paperwork. only had bill of sale. Last registered owner was 3 owners ago, in Wisconsin, and was deceased. Found a loophole. Insured the car through Hagerty. Registered in VT with my bill of sale. Turned in VT reg to FL, and they had to give me a new title!! Car was now legal and viable!!

Next was the seats. They were intact, but very badly faded. A few cans of spray vinyl and they looked very much improved!

Started on the exterior. Took of the dirt, grime, and surface rust. Read about guys doing rattle-can paint jobs. Figured I'd give it a shot. What did I have to lose, right? Chose Rustoleum Safety Red and Gloss Black. Lots of sandpaper, a sanding block, a bunch of cans of spray paint, and a ton of elbow grease!

Thought it needed a better stance, so new shocks all around, with hi-jackers in back.

Engine bay...new starter, alternator, plugs, wires, distributor cap, coil, air filter, transmission filter, fuel pump, battery tray. Got the carb rebuilt. Part chasing...fun stuff!!

Interior time! Bought a carpet set and new headliner. Pulled the old carpet and the rotted floorboards came up with it! Found new floorpans, cut out the old ones and put in the new. Put in the new carpet, gonna have to get a pro to install the headliner. Put in a cheap new stereo, new speakers.

Down to the pending stuff...oil change, brakes, electricals, trim.

Soon....showtime!!

i like it! sounds like youre having fun, too many guys get too caught up in overestoring these cars rock on dude

welcome fellow "Toad" owner. I know, some of us hate the term "Toad"! I love the different look. yep, they are rare but if you find one, they will general sell " well worth the $".
like just said, the fun factor is what counts.

vinyl spray. yes it an be had in spay can, bu best bet is to go to pro autp paint supply sor, have them mix and spray. the prep of the vinyl is so important. dry old vinl? test a spot after you spray the color and apply baby oil to soften hopefully the old vinyl. test a spot!!

I like the look. You are doing a fantastic job with the car.
Understand about the wife and the garage. Mine can not understand why my ugly car, as she put it, is in the garage with parts everywhere.
Congratulations on a really nice ride

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! Yeah, I'm having fun with it, and considering it's my first resto and being done on a nearly nonexistant budget with just basic tools, I'm pretty happy with the way it's coming out. Hoping to have it ready to hit some local shows by the middle of March, and maybe bring it to Carlisle or Mopar Nats this year.

They are cool, funky little cars, and becoming very rare. I like the body lines, but have to admit that I'd trade it out for a comparable 67-69 Barracuda fastback in a heartbeat.

Still, it is a lot of fun...and that's what really counts, right?

I have a complete firewall-mount heater system if you need any parts. If so, let me know, and I'll get the core re-checked.

Car is coming together. Need to find some front wheel hub assemblies for 9" drums, cause mine are dead.
