Is there a website where you can find original owner, previous owners and the dealership where the vehicle was purchased new using the VIN? Just thought it would be something cool to put together to take my 73 Dart to car shows with! Thanks!

Mike

CARFAX and similar outfits can do something like that for late model cars. But most of the history of our cars was before the internet -- the information is not out there to be dug up online-- it never existed in digital form. It's in filing cabinets, or more likely, archival storage boxes at various DMV offices and dealer back rooms (if it hasn't gone to the recyclers). So, the answer is "no", in most cases. I believe Chrysler Historical will send you information about the manufacturing record, or they used to (I heard they were scaling back a lot).

Car Fax will give you history on the car but not prior owners. After 9-11 getting ownership information via the VIN is next to impossible. It's privacy information that states will not disclose except only for law enforcement purposes.

chances are...your best be to find out anything is to go to our "lost and found" section and see if any f the previous owners are on here

Up here in Ontario for $25 you can just walk in to licensing office with the vin and get a list of all previous owners as long as it was registered in Ontario.
