muffler help

There is no such thing as a muffler that is quiet that doesn't hurt power.

You ever use a CC muffler? I use them all the time. If your stuff is sized correctly, you can make them fairly quiet without a significant power loss.

If you think mufflers make power, think again. There is no such thing.

Correct, mufflers dont make power but they can certainly rob you of power that you have payed alot of money trying to find.
By inserting something into your exhaust tubing that makes its flowthru area smaller you create a restriction, larger tubing to overcome a restriction are not what i consider a very good deal.
Had a customer with a bigblockpowered chevelle bring a set of insert in for installation many years ago when i worked in the exhaust bussines,i had my doubts but he insisted,i made sure the inserts could be taken out if need would be he was not happy and he described the car as running like garbage after testdriving his car with the new exhaust and blamed the exhaust i built for his car,i ended up uninstalling his inserts and he got the power back. That was with about 450HP and a mandrelbent 2½" dual exhaust with some nice straight thru mufflers,Yes 2½" ís the correct diameter tubing to use at that power level if you want to keep your car toned down without loss of power and that car ran realy nice. Im sure you can lessen the problem running larger exhaust tubing but that may come with other isues. And yes im avare 450hp is about the limit of 2½" and that where 3" starts to make a god difference outside of giving a different tone to the car.

Edit: ofcourse this is depending on enginecombination and tubing diameter, who knows the experience i had may be due to the combination of parts and the fact that the exhaust was already on the limit and the fact that those inserts (made for 3"exhausttubing) where put very close to the collectors on the customers request, in a section of tubing with a long transition into 2½" tubing. the long transition was not the customers request it was just the right thing to do.
