499 Demon

-
Ok, I've been back at it for the past few weeks.
A buddy of mine said that it would be very smart to at the very least get the engine compartment and the door jams in whatever color I was going to eventually paint the car. At the moment I wasn't too keen on that idea but now I see that he was right. So first I had to decide on a color for the car. I've always been a big fan of orange so I settled on 1969 Dodge orange. Apparently they didn't have to cool names for colors that year.
Now came the next dilemma. I can get by shooting primer but I've never shot any kind of color before. So I decided to try some of the 2K aerosol paint.
I found a place called 66 auto color. They hooked me up with 3 cans of 2 part paint. I have to say that I'm impressed with how it came out. The color is just right and the finish is pretty darn nice. And it's rock hard too.
After I painted the engine bay I finished up the chassis with rust bullet and their chassis black.

So today my wife and I began to actually start to assemble the Demon!! We decided to install something really simple as the very first part so we picked the K member. We are finally bolting on some parts and with any luck at all we'll have it on wheels in a few days.
Here's some pictures....................Enjoy..Ted

Assembly continues. Been working on the suspension. The rear end is in. I was really holding my breath when I was bolting the wheels on, but everything clears perfectly!
The front suspension is just about done too. Here's the adjustable strut rods I made.

More to come soon................Ted

Just about 3 years ago I started this thread saying that I was going to try to have the Demon on wheels that summer. Well it finally happened yesterday.
My wife and I unbolted it off of the rotisserie and it rolled out of the garage into the sunlight.

Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!!

Keep at her buddy!!!!!

Thanks Rob!!! It's really beginning to look like a (muscle)car again.

Here's one of my favorite pieces that I made so far. I call it "Mission Control". I really like the old style Stewart Warner gauges.

Yup. And I've got a "real" Sun Super tach to go on the steering column too. It was in one of our friends car. He passed away a few years ago so it's got sentimental value.

WOW........... KILLER LOOKING DEMON. I bet you were ecstatic when you got a look at the rear sitting on all for tires. looks awesome and great stance.

I didn't like the way the factory clutch rod felt. There was just too much misalignment. Felt like it was binding. So I knocked out the factory mounts on the pedal and the Z bar and drilled & tapped them 3/8-24. Then I just made a new rod with 2 heim joints on the ends. Now it's much better.

Did you make the Z-bar or buy it? I have a 440 in my Demon and modified a stock Z-bar. It does not work how I'd like it to. So it will be changed in time. Very nice work and I can not wait to see the final product!

That started life as a /6 Z bar. I shortened it and made the other piece that is welded on.

Well hello gang. Its been a while due to a stroke in May. Three weeks on my back but I'm recovering from it. I'm doing well now.
So lets get going. I did a few things this year like a trip to N.Y. to go and put my bottom end together. That was awesome! Besides that I just put my front and rear windows in, rebuilt my dash, also I was wiring the car.
The climate is a hard one for me now so we'll see.

What a sanitary build! Drag car only (since you are using E-85) or do you have a local
pump source for it? What are the plans for the camshaft, lifters and rocker arms?

Thank you. First it will be on the street for about a year to work out the bugs.
It will be on E-85 because it can be easily from around here.
The camshaft is a Crane which was done for me back a few years ago.It was a .531 lift. It's a tad small but it will work for now.The rockers are going to be a set of 1.6 ratio.

Thanks for asking..........Ted

Keep it up man!! You motivate me too finish up my duster! Cant wait too see the first outing and im sure epic burnouts!!

Well it has been a long time since I had posted anything. I've have been very busy, but I'm here to tell you guys and gals that it has finally started up and it runs.
Man that engine has a killer exhaust note. But it will be a while until I can drive it. Still has a lot to get finished before it can run on the street.
I'll post some more photos in the near future. ..................Ted
