Need some electrical advice here.
Working on taillights on 72 Duster. Driver side works fine, passenger blinker works UNTIL brake is applied then it stays solid on with just a hint of blinking. I can hear the flasher working under the dash.
If neither signal is on, brake lights work fine. If the right signal is on, the left brake light goes out and the right signal juuuusst barely blinks faintly. Front is same way.
WTF is going on here.
Oh yeah, replaced flasher with no change.

Others will chime in but my experience is brake, turn, and tail lights go through the turn signal switch. Good news it is easy to replace and many are available. You can search for threads on the replacement.

Yeah, I suppose if they aren't too costly it would be good to replace the 40+ year old piece anyway. Is there a way to test the original?

There is but I ain't the guy for that. You want to check with a/jforms or crackedback. Also whitepunkonnitro and trailbeast. Those 4 guys are genius at this stuff. Maybe pm them or do a search for it. There have been many threads about the switch.

Excellent! Knew smarter people than me we out there. Don't take much to meet that bar.

Hell yeah! That's what I'm talking about! Thanks guys. Will test the switch in the morning. Kinda hope it's bad so I don't have to chase the gremlins.

Update
Once I navigated the rats nest under the dash and did some testing, I discovered a PO had bypassed the turn signal switch for the brake light circuit. (Probably when the switch **** the bed). After I un-F'd the wiring harness I tested the switch and it proved faulty. Installed new switch scored on eBay and VIOLA! Everything works as it should. Thanks to @70Duster440 for the switch test post.

Glad you got it! It is always nice to see some resolution. So many never let us know how it worked out.
Really happy it worked out for ya and you got the rats nest cured at the same time!
:steering:
