I'm putting the interior back in 68 Barracuda I bought. Interior was out of it when I bought it. What is the procedure to install the back seat ? Bottom first or Back first? Rather than stumble through the ordeal, I figured I'd ask.

Bottom first, it hooks on the bottom then has 2 sheet metal screws on tabs at the rear bottom. Then the top rear seat gets 2 bolts on each side (long 1/4" bolts I think).

Oh, you didn't say if you had a fold down seat or not. Mine is not fold down so you might need to get someone else's advice???

I owned a fold down seat Barracuda many years ago and it does have a latch but I never removed the seat on that car.

Either one you loose good access to the bottom rear bolts if you install the back first.

So if you don't care about those two bolts on the rear of the bottom then it does not matter. If you do put the bottom in first.

Yes it is a fold down seat. I thought all of the fastbacks had fold down seats? Thanks for the info.

I would beg to differ!! If the hinge is unbolted from the body, I would certainly be putting the back in first! Heck, if the hinges are already bolted to the body, and you had to put the swivel bolts in to attach the seat, I would remove the hinges and bolt them to the seat first, then mount the seat back, then the bottom! And, the rear latch is operated by a lever located inside the center fish emblem on the front of the upper bun!!

I can't reach my lower seat rear bolts with the folding back installed without a lot of contortion a wrench and cussing. I installed the lower seat then the folding back fully assembled. 4 bolts hold the back through the hinges. My car had two shim packs that go between seat back hinge and the body for alignment as well. The shims were originally taped to the body mount and I did it the same way after restoration and re-assembly. Covers on the hinges were installed lastly.

You can see the shims here.

The lower bun has bolts to hold it down??

Yep it hooks in the front and bolts in the rear.

Yes I do have the shims in all the stuff I got with the car.I noticed that for some reason the previous owner cut the front hook mount off the floor. So I guess that is some thing I'll have to add. I also notice your carpet runs all the way back on the sides?

I was contorting inside the car mounting that stainless steel piece across the front of that lower deck and the two L shaped SS pieces on either side. I must have abused my kidneys to bad contorting in the car. Monday night I spent 8 hours in the ER with a kidney stone. Three days later I still haven't passed it!

That sux, hope you get better. Yeah the carpet goes all the way back and under the c-piller covers.

Well when I looked at your picture I also noticed the carpet extends on the sides all the way back on the sides. The PO cut the new carpet off straight across where the hooks should be. I have plenty of new carpet, guess I'll be seaming some carpet.

I got all new belts from dart4forte along with the hardware. Came with 4 long shank bolts, 2 medium length and 4 short ones. Can you help me with which belt goes where?

This should answer your questions. The longer bolts are for the double belt rear mounts and the front inside (hump) mounts if I remember correctly. The Medium is the Front sides and the short ones the rear singles. The other two short ones for the shoulder belts?
