What is pushing the limit for a stock flywheel as inregards to Rpm, Hp and torque?

I have had my stock 340 flywheel to 6800 rpm's sustained for a good long bit. The idea of that exercise was to find a top end of my car at the time. Just how fast could I go. So I floored it and I left it in fourth. The engine was running at 6800 RPMs. And that was it.

I'd call the flywheel people on that one.

If it's at all in question, I'd run steel, or preferably aluminum.

Throw it out and get a steel flywheel, a iron flywheel can go right through a scatter shield because of the way they come apart at high speed.

Not for drag racing. My son's low horsepower, maybe twenty dumps at 5500rpm is showing checking and a crack at one flywheel bolt hole. Yes he had a steel bell housing and gave it a try.

Heat is the killer on cast iron. Speed is bad but heat does the dirty. Add RPM to that heat and you'd better have a scatter shield.

Oh yea! Got me a scattersheild on that thing. Though high rpm clutch dumps aren't done. Only 2500 @ best.

Get a sfi flywheel, worth the piece of mind. I put a sfi flywheel, crank pulley and blowproof bellhousing on my 340.

Done a bunch of 4k dumps, never worry about it

my question ,usually is, what's your legs worth?

Since you quoted me I'll guess your asking me and the answer is "The cost and time I put into installing my Lakewood bell housing. A big and heavy scattersheild there are.

Think of all these new vettes, stangs, camaros and challengers, wonder if the flywheels are sfi from the factory or are certified. A clutch/flywheel could explode under any circumstances
