904 Goo in pan

Hi everyone , bought a used 904 was supposed to be rebuilt ,was used after rebuild, but there is some strange goo in pan and some water droplets in oil , only had a little trans fluid in it and seems dark , doesn't smell , but looks suspicious , jut looking for some opinions on possible goo, its not metalic , not chunky and does wipe into a paper towel,

Hard to tell. Could be left over assembly lube.
 
The first 727 I used in my Charger sat outside during a couple of storms before I installed it. The dipstick tube was out too. Water mixed with the ATF resulting in a liquid that looked like Pepto Bismol. I just drained it and put in a new filter and ATF. That was 2001 and that trans still works today.
 
Is there a chance it got water in it? Was there a dipstick in it? Or was it out side un covered?
 
dip stick was in it , was inside when i got it , was going to shift kit it, and install , have to pull valve body and check some more, filter showed some black specs on it, thought it would have been cleaner. has water droplets in it , and in the oil, so moisture got in ,how much ?, would just water in oil sitting there cause the goo? no grey matter inside on pan ,
 
Since you're gonna have the valve body out, just inspect it. Remove any "goo" , blow it out good with brake clean and air. Do the same to the trans while the vb is out. I'm with rusty, I think the assembly lube, and normal filings mixed with water makes things look worse than they are. There is no burnt smell is there?

That is really unusual, but if the water didn't get circulated it could live through that.
Water dissolves the adhesive that binds the clutch material to the metal plates.

The goo is usually a combination of aluminum from the torque converter and clutch material, and can be fairly normal.

I will say this though, I wouldn't trust that trans after seeing the pan contents and fluid condition.
It should be opened up and inspected at the very least.
If NONE of that in the pan is chunks and I didn't have any money I might try it.
