Hi,
I got a question about the tail lights of my 1973 Duster.
The driver light is normal red, but on the right side, there is an orange lense.
I've seen this several times, but I don't know why.
I need the information for the german historic approval.

Any ideas (I think it's a small thing for you).

Thank you... Eckhard

I do not have an answer, but I do offer a solution....have you considered buying a new or NOS lens and make it match.
So there worried about the orange lens color but ok with a piece of rope/string hold the license plate on ? Hmmmmm....

In North America rear signal lenses can be either red or amber. In most the rest of the world amber is required. Most vehicles made here in North America still have red rear signal lenses and in 1973 your Duster would have had both rear signal lenses with red. Many imports have amber. I would guess that the right one on your Duster is a replacement or modified lense.

Thank you guys!

so I will try to find a red one.
The license plate was a temporary solution, to drive the car from the garage to the shop - and it was in the Netherlands.... not germany, and the seller did this.
Not my kind of get work done.
So let's see Ebay and co and find a tail light.

Eckhard :thankyou:

My guess - If that car was sold new in Europe, it would have required the orange / red taillights. If it were sold new in North America, it would have had the all red taillights. Somehow, you have one of each. I met some German VW restorers, in Germany in the early '80's. I have a pretty good knowledge of these cars. They were telling me that , they were always on the look out, for North American taillights, for their restorations, as they preferred the all red, to the orange / red taillights of the European cars.

Hi,
just asked a good friend, who has done the approval to a Chevy Bel Air - orange is no must.
So I can look for a RH lens or complete light (not realy easy to find, but some available on Ebay).

Thank you :)

Check, found a good, red one on ebay.
So I have to wait for the packages to be delivered... summit, ebay, etc.

Thank you all!
