i have a 63 a body dart i put in a 67 b body rear end housing measures 53" flange to flange the a body housing measures 52 5/8" but the b body axles must stick out further because cant get my 15x7 steel wheels to clear has anyone run into this problem ? low budget build so a body housing to expensive what size rims and tires did you use need something that will get some traction 410 gear 550 hp 340 thanks

Some people get away with a B-body rear on a 67-up A-body, though it does stick out more. But on an early "narrow" body, you would need wheels with a heck of a lot of backspace. Custom wheels or find a different housing...

I have a B-Body rear from a '68 Satellite that I'm running Mustang Bullitt wheels with Toyo 245/45/17's as they have the backspace that I needed. No rubbing at all. Could get away with a bit bigger tire still. They seem to work good, but then again my 318 is only making about half the HP's that you are making...

If you didn't narrow it then you will have to use newer mustang or equivelant wheels with lots of backspacing. I think some have been using the 17x9 on the rear.

The b body rears work great on Duster/Demon/Dart Sport. Anything else you need modern wheels with a lot of positive offset like was mentioned.

you got a 550 hp 340 and can't afford an A body rear? I got mine free, and had it restored... My Dad's cost 300 complete, needing resto... We prolly got only a grand in our rearends all together...

thats why i cant afford it the motor, trans ,convertor ,paint ,interior, you see were this is going i need one less the center pumpkin cheap in ohio thanks for comments

63 A has fender lips and a pretty shallow inner fender. Have you ever seen these cut for full arch rear wheel wells? You could run any size rear wheel you wanted on that rear end and it doesnt look half bad! Finish off with some bolt on flares so it looks like a Mustang rear end. I saw a rally 65 Barracuda with this mod and it looked stock to the unsuspecting.

For 67,the track on the B is listed at 59.2 inches, vs 55.6 for the A. That is Plus1.8 inches per side. And the springs got kicked out .5" per side.I have no spec for the early As.As mentioned:Custom wheels for sure, now, or start cutting.

A 550hp 340 eh? That's pretty potent.I'm guessing it's stroked or supercharged? Or something like 400 plus 150Nitrous. In an early-A I'm thinking that calls for tubs and SS style suspension, and of course that leads to a narrowed rear,12s or more, and slicks.
I mean you have enough P/W to get into the low 10s, and your 4.10s are good to 130ish. You are gonna need some serious suspension to get there.
Man, that's gonna rock!

Ok , not knowing what type of wheels you prefer , this is a crap shoot but you can get Cragar wheel company to make you a spec wheel to fit depending on the type of wheel you need . You can order them thru Summit Racing . I ordered a set of 15x10 inch SS wheels with the back spacing I needed , the cost was only $20.00 more per wheel and took only 10 days to get them , just measure twice and order them , if wrong they are yours . if you need anymore info just P.M. me and I will help you out with your wheel order .

A '67 B-body rear axle housing should be 54 1/4" flange to flange, not 53". If it's 53" it's been shortened.

The axle flange offset is different as well though for the BBP axles compared to the SBP axles, so, the BBP axle/brake combo does have a wider track compared to even the same width housing with SBP axles/brakes. Sounds like you're going to need rims with more backspacing regardless.
