Got my first rim done. Wanted to see what it looked like. I am really happy with the result!
What do you guys think?

Can't say I'm a fan....a little too much black for my liking!

My '72 Demon had the acorn center caps.....swapped them for the earlier sombreros.

I think it's too much black as well. Not enough contrast. The silver is much better.

I like it!

But I also think rallye wheels are quite possibly the ugliest wheel Ma Mopar ever made, and having them painted black helps to hide all that ugly. :D

Try leaving the wheel black and popping a beauty ring on it. I like the black, but I'm not sure about painting the beauty ring.

With a quick glance it now just looks if you have black steelies with a dogdish hubcap.
That, as such looks good, but I think I would want to just get another set of wheels with black steelies and dogdishes then, and not waste time with plastdip.

Yes, my plan is to to get new rims and tires eventually.
This is a quick 30$ fix.

I like it a lot haha.

I don't care much for the look but it's your car, you do what pleases you. I do have some advice on using Plastidip. Follow the directions. Don't treat it like spray paint because it's not. You need to use 3-4 good coats so that when you do decide to take it off (and you will) it comes off much easier, in big sheets. If you just spray on one coat, it has to come off like paint using thinner and a rag. What a pain in the ***. This happens at least once a week at the dealership with trade-ins and the detail guys are always pissed.

I like the factory look of rallies with the silver paint, don't like the blacked out look at all.
Now if it were plain steelies, hell yeah!
But it's your car, do what you want...........

you bought and paid for your car, it is yours so you do whatever you want to it, whatever makes you happy with your car!

I disagreed with 72bluNblu and just wanted to say I think the Mopar rally wheel is one of the best From any manufacture out there. Can't say I care for the black much tho.

For me I knew before I did this it would be a temporary thing until I decided what I wanted.

I was thinking all black aluminum 17" but now I'm leaning more toward 15" black steelies with chrome caps.

Are the steel wheels really that much heavier? Would it hurt performance much?

straight black with chrome Acorn nuts.

Nice!!! I love the blacked out rims with either chrome centers and lugs, or with the small dog dish caps. Cop rims with caps, steelies with redlines etc. Black rims with a set of chrome spider caps can look pretty awesome too.

I ran my Duster with cop wheels for a bit before I went to the really wide tires on it now...

It depends on what wheels and what sizes. I found that the 15x7" cop wheels with 225/60/15's were actually heavier than the 18x9 and 18x10 combo I run now with 275's and 295's. But the enkei RPF1's I have on there now are one of the lighter wheels available. And the cop rims are a little heavier than most of the standard steel wheels, they're probably a little heavier than the rallye's if you compared the same sizes. But it wouldn't be a lot.

The 225's compared to the 295's.

I've always liked the idea of blacking out wheels, bumpers, hoods, trim - but I am in the camp with leaving the trim rings alone - to each his own and all, and if you like it - to heck with everyone else. I think the look in post 17 is dynamite!

Sorry ... I had to.

Too ricer for me, and an affront to my industry.

I don't think it's an affront to your industry. Plasti-dip isn't permanent, and it's in a completely different price market. You can plasti-dip your wheels for $30 to $50 for a set of 4 depending on the color. Last time I asked about getting wheels powder coated locally they wanted $80 a wheel just to get them done in black, no fancy colors involved. Now I don't know if that's good, bad or whatever. My point is you're not going to plasti-dip your wheels if you want them powder coated or vice-versa.

Not only that, but it's a good way to try out a color. $30 to black out a set of wheels. If you like it, maybe you want to make it permanent and get them powder coated. If you don't, you peel it off, no harm done. In that respect it might even help your industry. Plasti-dip doesn't last forever, so if someone likes the color change they very well might have them powder coated later.

Well then there's your answer. It's your time, your money, your effort. As long as you like it, nothing else matters.

not feeling the black rally wheels.. i don't like rally wheels anyway so maybe i'm bias... i don't have to liek it though. not my car.. if you like it then roll with it..
