The seller said the insides looked good and I took the input shaft off and the bearings and shaft itself look to be in good shape.

I'd never go off the sellers "judgement"

Did the side cover look like it was recently opened? They are not too hard to open. I opened one before I bought one at a Spring/Fall Fling.

Next time open it up before you buy. But I think you could be ok.

Open it and show the pics

Thanks for the info. Should I be able to see the gears if I take the side plate (where the linkage is) off? I am going to drain all the fluids and reseal it this weekend. I felt like I was so close, but I still have to buy a shift lever, clutch, flywheel, clutch fork, and I just ordered a Lakewood bell housing. Lakewood MOPAR Big BLOCK 440 426 400 383 HEMI BELL HOUSING SCATTER SHIELD | eBay. Hopefully I can have engine/trans complete by May 1st. Then off to do the rear end...

Spring Fling in 2 weeks should be good for all those items. I've seen new clutches there even.

That is an abody trans so it has the very small bearing retainer diameter that no stock bellhousing had. I think Brewers and Passon make adapter rings.

I don't think that eBay scatter shield is the smaller 4.35" OD retainer diameter.

Common Big block bellhousing are 4.805"

I'm not sure if I'll need it with the scatter shield but I will for sure be checking out the spring fling. I am just down the street in the valley.

Yea.

You most likely will need one of these adapter rings:

Brewer's Performance - Mopar A833 4-Speed Transmission and Component Specialists

Or

Adapter Rings | Passon Performance | Get your SHIFT together!

That trans you bought was only behind small block abodies. It has the smaller 4.35 OD bearing retainer diameter that mate with the hole at the back of the scatter shield/bellhousing.

Did you buy that eBay scatter sheild? Did the seller tell you what the trans side hole diameter was?

I already bought the scatter shield. There seems to be only 1 big block scatter shield available, which is the lakewood/quick time (both are made by Holley from what I can tell). I didn't get the diameter of the bearing retainer, but once I get it I can measure and buy the necessary adapter.

Edit: Holley website has the trans diameter listed as 5.6 in.
