The middle photos show the first layer of glass (about 4 sheets of mat thick). Pretty ugly. I rough power-sanded that down after it had cured and did a second layer - sanded again, and then did a smooth coat of resin without any mat - sanding to shape. I used this
cheep-o multi-tool from Harbor Freight for the sanding. what a great little thing for under $20. Used an old dremel tool with the tiny cutting wheel to cut off the excess material.
My console was pretty roughed up with scratches and gouges so I sanded off most of the original texture and sprayed with a Rustolium fine texture black. For not working with it before, I was happy with how it came out. Now if I can just get it into the car right...
