Just curious to see what coil you guys are running with your small cap hei distributor? Looking at the low ohm E-core type. Is one any better then the 50 other ones on a daily driver? Thanks as always

Standard FD-478 or NAPA Echlin IC-24

If available Standard FD-478X (yes, X at the end)

I'm daily running a MSD Blaster SS on my Dart.
Also used a similar shaped MSD TFI coil for a while.

It's fired through a 7-pin HEI module and MegaSquirt ECU controlling dwell and timing.

Ford TFI from1986 to 1995 5.0L, about $20 to $50 at auto parts stores, buy pigtail connector there too $6. Many performance coils are that, with different colored housing and fancy heat sink mount.

I ordered the MSD tfi coil for a ford today and got a pigtail, so I guess I'll see how it works

do you have a part number for that one. the yr/make should suffice but parts house people do have (compentency) issues!

I just ended up getting a MSD 8227 for a Ford tfi

They are all about the same on a daily driver car (overkill).
Better than underkill though.:D

I run a GM 50k ecore with all the appropriate weatherproof connectors and an 8 pin HEI module.

Applications: GM HEI Coil #s 1115315 & 1115317 (new updates may now be available)
Vehicles: 1985 thru 1991 Buick Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac Pontiac - Chevy and GMC Trucks
Engines: All

You can get this stuff in stock 7 days a week in any town.

Made me a near little aluminum bracket with plasma cutter and spoil gun in about 10 minutes

Taylor cable is good as well, been running the same style coil on my 95 bronco 351 and had no issues

"Small cap distributor" => "8-pin HEI module". Why aren't you using the GM "external coil" that goes with it? You just grab the GM factory cable that connects the two, plug and done. While in there, I also grabbed the knock sensor & module, but that is for a Holley Commander 950 (or Megasquirt).

If you want to pay a lot, buy an aftermarket coil, either red or yellow depending upon who you want to give your hard-earned money to. To stay Mopar, grab the e-core coil off a Magnum engine (until ~2001, also on Jeep GC I think). It is probably as good as the red & yellow ones.

Are you running a ballast resistor for the MSD Blaster SS? MSD's instructions say to run one but I've converted to HEI and ditched a ballast resistor for a reason. Some people say if you're using the Blaster SS with HEI or stock electronic ignition that a resistor isn't needed.

The whole reason I bought the Blaster SS was because the full 12V to my stock coil was cooking it. Will the Blaster SS survive full 12V at all times?

No resistor with the Blaster SS e-core coil on my car.
I think maybe people are confusing Blaster II coils with the Blaster SS coils sometimes.

I run an MSD Blaster SS coil on my dart with a GM HEI ignition. Works fine with 12 volts. That's what they're designed for.

Anybody know how the Ram/ Dakota coil compares? I'm getting quite a collection of those LMAO
