Black steelies and drag radial look?

They're 15x8 with 5.25" of backspace. Pretty weird, I know. But here's why. It has a b-body rear that was originally narrowed for a different pair of rear wheels and tires. I don't recall where the dimension on the axle ended up at but it's narrower than a stock B and a little wider (I believe) than a stock A.

I abandoned the black steelie idea and am going to relocate the springs, mini-tub, narrow the rear again, and go with a 325 tire. The wheels will have 3.5" of BS. Will likely sell the steelies and tires that have probably less than 25 miles on them.

I have a 74 duster. Could i fit that size tire on my rear? 275-60-15 i mean.
 
Sweet! Are those mopar steel rims then you have? Would i need spacers?
They're Mopar reproductions from Wheel Vintiques. You would need to take careful measurements on your car to determine the maximum backspace (allowing for tire section width/sidewall) before the tire contacts your leaf springs, inner fender, etc. I can't say for sure since I don't have a stock axle width. (I also have offset leafs but would still have plenty of clearance if they weren't). I know there are guys here on the board who run 275 tires on a stock A-body axle and can tell you the wheel backspace required to tuck the tire into the opening without rubbing anywhere.

Another way to look at it is, 4.5" is a pretty common backspace for an 8" wheel. These would be sit .75" closer to the center of the axle. Taking sidewall bulge into consideration (and to some extent, ride height) will help determine if the tire will contact the leaf spring, inner fender, or fender lip.
Also what did you use in the center of the rim? The chrome circle...
That's just the register on the end of the axle.

Well that kind of sucks. I am in a similar situation. Years ago when I first built my 69 dart we narrowed a Dana for it. I thought we made it same width as the original 7 1/4 and have always run police wheels. I wanted to change the look, and go to a 15x8 with offset hangers and found that none of the wheels I want come in 5" backspace that I would need.

Ok, my axle end is just old rusted metal haha. If I buy steelies can I get a piece or chrom for that open circle part in the middle of the rim? Or no...

Second option would be I guess to paint the center black.
