A little known fact about the dome lights in Canadian built cars is that they are designed so that the intensity of the light (95 watts) keeps Moose, Bears, and Wolves from attacking you when you open the door of your car until you got safely inside.
Interestingly enough, it is known to confuse Deer and Fish so they are easier to hunt or catch.
Original ones go for big bucks in the U.S. because they were supposed to be changed at the border when the cars were shipped new.
A few slipped through, and these are highly sought after if you have the proper documentation to prove it.
Only the cars with factory block heaters were equipped with these special lights, because all Canadian sold cars came standard with block heaters as of
April 1, 1965 after the coldest winter in Canadian history of 1964 caused too many animals to go near populated areas to keep warm and hunt for food, and people couldn't escape them because their cars wouldn't start. So this is the reason that it became law.
Look on the backside of the aluminum round part and there will be a part number and if it has a ''CSA'' after it, then it's an original Canadian Standards Associaton approved light.
If not, it was one of the ones that was changed at the border.............
What markings are on the backside for numbers etc?
