Okay...You didn't technically "ask" a question but....
The lever on the transmission that controls the shift selector is on the left side. If the lever is pointed all the way to the rear, the transmission is in PARK. Try disconnecting the linkage rod and move the lever rearward. It might be a case where the linkage isn't allowing FULL travel of the shift lever at the transmission. If the guy mixed and matched a few parts from different cars, the geometry of it all can be messed up. The transmission shift levers came in a few different lengths. A longer lever needs a longer amount of travel to engage each gear. Think of it like leverage. A short handle ratchet will not break loose a stuck bolt like a long handled one will.
Anyhow...
Even if the transmission is NOT engaging PARK, it does not mean that it is AFU. There is a rod inside that is supposed to move fore and aft, when PARK is selected, it slips into a notch in a wheel that is on the output shaft. That rod may have just slipped out of position.
