so my dart is on jack stands, and i can spin the wheels in every gear, even park. the drive shaft is turning the slip yoke. the car is not running so i can not check it under power. i feel like this is not normal.
my reason for asking is the motor needs a bunch of work and parts to run, but i dont want to spend a bunch of money getting the /6 running just to find i need a trans.
this car came to me as a project, and the previous owner sold it because he tried to do a motor swap but could not finish the job.

any advise is apreciated,

I didn't see any questions, certainly not nine hundred and four of them.

Okay...You didn't technically "ask" a question but....
The lever on the transmission that controls the shift selector is on the left side. If the lever is pointed all the way to the rear, the transmission is in PARK. Try disconnecting the linkage rod and move the lever rearward. It might be a case where the linkage isn't allowing FULL travel of the shift lever at the transmission. If the guy mixed and matched a few parts from different cars, the geometry of it all can be messed up. The transmission shift levers came in a few different lengths. A longer lever needs a longer amount of travel to engage each gear. Think of it like leverage. A short handle ratchet will not break loose a stuck bolt like a long handled one will.
Anyhow...
Even if the transmission is NOT engaging PARK, it does not mean that it is AFU. There is a rod inside that is supposed to move fore and aft, when PARK is selected, it slips into a notch in a wheel that is on the output shaft. That rod may have just slipped out of position.

The lever on the trans? Not sure about the B&M setup but I do know that you need a matched set of components to properly engage all gears and PARK.
Again, the lever attached to the trans case is all the way to the rear with the trans in PARK.

yes it is to the rear when in park, but have not confirmed yet if it engaging. i seem to remember when i pushed it to the tow truck it would only roll in D, whitch made me think it was set up backwards. i since checked it and the tires roll in every gear now. i am going to disconnect the linkage tommorow and see if i can get the lever to engage the gears. if it does i will adjust the linkage to fit. either way i will post my results.
