Did a ton of searching on the forum and couldn't find the specific answer to this question - how does all the spare tire stuff go together on a 69 GTS 340 Dart? Look at the picture to see where I'm at right now. Looked at the spare label on the trunk and it is almost no help. This is what I have so far: spare rod in floor, spare tire in valve stem down, hook on top of wheel, base holding hook and spare down. Car has E70-14's which is a very wide and tall tire. Is that the correct place for the hook? Is the tire supposed to be that much above the trunk pan? The trunk was replaced on this car and the repo pan was a poor repo - is it too shallow? The cardboard is up like 3-4 inches above the rest of the floor pan and I don't see a way to get the circle hold down in on top of the board. Any advice is appreciated.

Well, the spare tire well is sized pretty much for a 5.95 x 14. Any kind of decent-sized tire will bulge up out of the well, and make a bulge in the floorboard. It's not just you.

But even given that, it does look like it sticks up a lot. I have a 195-75-14 as a spare, and it sticks up only about 7/8 inch. Are you sure the tire is bottomed out, or is it catching because of the diameter?

I believe the instructions show the hook on the underside of the wheel. The long bolt passes through the hook, then up through the wheel. The rest looks right. But if you have a board, then there should be a recessed disk that sits flat in the center hold of the board and then the big wing nut goes on top of that. The original spares were very small and did not stick up above the well, but it is pretty much unavoidable anymore. Here you can see my spare tire and how the jack is stored in the trunk in the background. The hook is under the wheel. I can see if I can go out there in the daylight tomorrow and get a pic of how I have the spare mounted in my trunk with the board.

The original spare was a E-70-14. I have the original wheel and tire. Yes, it raised the spare tire board. The spare was turned over with the white letters facing down. The placement of the jackparts is correct. I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow

the E70 tire goes with white letters face down. the performance cars had a longer stud than the family car as the tire was wider, thus taller. the stud was taller than the tire to extend through the full cardboard covering and uses the black recessed pan to take a smaller wing nut to hold all together. yes the trunk mat then covered all and was raised up above the floor pan

The trunk floor was never redisigned for the wider tires like the factory E70-14, so your tire being above floor level is completely normal and how all of them are.

The round disc is supposed to be on top of the cardboard that covers the spare tire with the concave side facing down and the wingnut riding on the flat part of the disc.

Jack mounting....
On the bracket over the wheel well (the jack sits on this bracket) don't forget the little strip of felt that gets glued on the bracket. It is for rattle suppression and often over looked :).

Got the jack mounted fine, just trying to figure out the spare. With the jack hook under the spare it will rattle, no way Chrysler would have done that from the factory. Anybody know how long the stud is supposed to be on a E70-14 car? Didn't have the original for the car and the one in it is 6 inches long, thinking it's maybe too short? No way the circle is going to reach the stud currently in the car.

Just curious for those that have a 69 Dart - how shallow is your spare well? From the bottom to the floor of the trunk pan.

With mine because of the tire height I ended up using the B body ones as they are 8 inches long and should work for your application, with the hook I ended up using a bike tube to cover half of it, the bolt runs through it. Do not get any rattles while driving

The felt strip for anti rattle goes on the "U" shaped bracket that holds the jack itself. The "U" shaped bracket is located above the passenger wheel well 1/4 panel.....this is what I was talking about :) The felt was a factory installed item and nearly always missing.

To clarify, just want to know the way it was mounted from the factory, know a few other things would work but trying to get the car correct from that stand point.

Okay, let's put the question to rest. Here is a picture of the "jacking" (HA!) instructions decal in the trunk of the 69 Dart. The bottom right picture which is hard to see shows how the equipment is stored. It says the hook is stored under the base, so I assume that means not under the wheel. It does not show the board (obviously), but the board overlays all of this and has a concave disc in the center that the wingnut holds down.

The real problem is , using a 14 x 5.5 wheel. If you use a 14 x 4.5 wheel , the cardboard will be almost flat. I have had a few people call me looking for the 14 x 4.5 small bolt steel wheels , just for that purpose.
