Hi guys. I have a welding project I'm way too new to try and tackle. The cowl on my 70 Swinger where it sits under the windshield is shot. I have a replacement juat not the skill set yet. I can pay a shop but I'd rather pay a guy who likes these cars, wants extra money, and make a friend in the process. I'm in Vancouver wa. Any takers or ideas?

Tackle out a few exhaust builds and then do it yourself and bring a grinder. Use a mug welder that takes gas. Watch a few YouTube videos. If your welder thin metal to thick metal move a bit slower while on the thick side an faster on the thin. Keep your wire pointing towards the weld. Go in circles. Move away from the weld. Carefully grind away the excess.
Also don't start at the beginning and go all the way down in one long weld. You will chance earlier g your metal if you do. Instead tach weld ever few inches or a foot depending if your metal is sagging down. Then weld a few inches at a time.e and jump around a bit to keep the keep the heat down.
After your finished you should be close enough to use a filler primer on it. Keep the gun back a bit so you can get a bigger build without it running on ya. May have to prime and sand it a couple times but fairly simple if you practice a bit.

Too bad you don't live near me.
I would gladly help you out with this, but i live about a thousand miles away......
And i am a journeyman welder with a great love for these cars and have done lots of body repairs/welding on lighter sheet metal!
Maybe try an ad on craigslist if no one steps up here, but be aware of the hacks that will reply.
Insist on seeing their work first before you get them to work on your car.
That's my advice FWIW.
Tom.
