CAR SHOW Ebody Jerks turn their noses up

-
Girls and convertibles always go together. With a sweet looking vert like that, i'd be all smiles if i was her too.

All of this talk about car shows got my Jones going. I'm taking my 24 year old son to a Streetcar Takeover event this afternoon. It's been a while since we've gone to a car show together and we're gonna have to take the 17 Ford Fusion cause there's no exhaust on the Dart yet, but the sun is shining, I've got a few cold adult beverages and there will be tons of cars.

Best reply to the buyers of their rides is, "Yeah, anyone can write a check" What I get a kick out of is the amount of Mopar owners that will place something over the VIN plate in the windshield. I guess to try and fool other Mopar owners? I don't know, but it seems to happen a lot.

i have done that.. if they want to know its a 6cyl car then let them work for it..:)

Agreed there are a body b body chevy ford a holes lol. To categorize ebody owners as a holes....well read over again lol
I guess I've not experienced anything at the local shows around me to what's being discussed here.
  • I can't imagine being offended because somebody isn't interested in giving me a gold star for my car.
  • enough snobs right here on FABO: Wrong year of Duster? 318 and not a 360? You don't know spit because you didn't get a custom grind cam? I've had people ask me how do I bench flow my home ported heads. My answer is "E.T. slip". It's the best bench flow, best dyno that I know of :D To that I've never had a response, end of conversation :)

I have never experienced this kind of snobbery at a show but I did expereince it at a local car club. I bought a Viper some 10 years ago and joined the local Viper club to learn a little more about the car.

The first event was a wedding. One of the members kids was getting married and he wanted the wedding party to all be driven to the reception in Vipers. When I met the members none of them knew anything about the car. It was essentially a " social club" for people that owned the same car. The guys were absolute dicks. They would pull out their wallets at a restaurant to see who could out spend the other guy......I'm not kidding! Anyway, It started to rain after the wedding and a lot of us had to drive kids. Vipers are not the safest cars to be driven in rain! These idiots were driving kids in the rain going down the highway at 120 MPH.

I sent a note to the club president asking if any members would like to meet up on a Sunday morning at a local coffee shop to go for a drive. His answer " These people are too important to do something like that".

I never went back to an event. Found another Viper owner who was really into learning the car too and just hung out with him. Still have the car. It is amazing. Still hate the club.

Now that's snobbery in the first degree!! You can tell by the way they don't wave when you pass them, if youeven see them out driving them at all!!! Glad you're one of the few!!!

just over an hour and a half from me
mothers day is on a sunday, no?

it would depend on the time, we usualy get out of church about 12.30 to 1 which would get me there at 2, by the very earliest

might be doable

------tell them------------
anybody with money can buy a car ! My car is pretty, and it "will" out run yours !

I am sad to learn that becoming a new owner of an E-body would soon or eventually turn me into a jerk. Good thing I'm already an asshole anyway.

I usually get a great reception on my Dart at shows because of the work that went into it including by my own hand. But the most common negative reaction is "oh, it's only a 318. You should have put a 340 in it." But I can promise that "little 318" can do more damage than most of these muscleheads realizes.

You know.....I still remember when I was very green here and had a broken turn signal lever on my 64 Valiant and I couldn't find a replacement. Without even asking you sent me two of them, even paid for shipping and never asked for a thing in return. THAT is what a club is supposed to be about! That blew me away. I have never forgotten your generosity. Wish you lived nearby!

Beak cars rule.
I can get two fenders and 8 feet of lumber in my fold down rear seat area.
What's a car show?
What's an E body?
Oh, yea I had one of those useless things years ago.

Went to an open car show. Ran into a guy had a 70 challenger with with Hemi Swap (GenIII). Which I have done myself in my 67 barracuda So I comment on his restoration and ask some questions about the swap I noticed some stuff I liked and asked him. He told me "I don't know anything about it you have to ask the guy that restored the car." and proceeded to turn away from me. What a Dick. Later he came by my car and was ripping on all the scratches and chipped paint and old bumpers. So I told him aperantly you can not appreciate a car that the owner built and drives all over the country. And not towed in a trailer.

I usually ask a guy like that why his car doesn't have a Fratzog

Honestly. It's not the car, it's the person. I've been an AH long before I bought my current E body, and I'll be one long after it's gone.

It's a life style. You want to see car snobs go to a vette or jag. Show.

You really want to see the noses in the air around here?

Say "Offenhauser" instead of "Edelbrock."

"Cast iron" instead of "aluminum."

Mention having an F- or an M-body and the replies will be split. Half the responses will be positive the other half will be someone with his nose in the air.

Seriously, it's all forms. Take a fairly stock nice '65 Mustang and park it next to a Mach I, Boss 302, or even worse yet a Boss 429 and listen.

Take a nice '70 Monte Carlo and park it next to a Camaro SS or Chevelle SS and listen to the Chevy guys.

Don't dare be an AMC owner at a Mopar show..

I have taken mine to two car shows and will not do it anymore. I got bored sitting there all day preventing people from touching my car and hearing all the criticism what was not right and so forth. I have on occasion rode thru the local show and not stoping watching spectators stare. I have lots more fun working on it and driving it.

my take is , in general, E body guys are more into the $$$ part of it more so than the typical A body guy. the average A body guy is usually playing with more affordable cars no doubt. we have a different mindset. IN GENERAL. I have life long friends that are died in the wool hemi E body people, but very down to earth folk. they love their cars. hands on. one of them has nothing but hemi E body survivors. he does not have to have any body or whatever work done to those! ha.... but they run in a different economic circle than I do.
seems the B body guys are somewhere in between the and A body crowd. you can even find different clics in the years, say 68-70 roadrunner guys tend to be a little different than the 66-7 guys! just my observation. maybe totally flawed. !!!!!
I have a F body. ( among other mopars).. a volare. I love the car. now I figure the FMJ body guys tend to be a little different than all the other groups too. why?? the typical FMJ car has no where near the worth of the E body or B body, or even the lowest ranking A body!!! ha...... is it the $$ worth that sets us apart? or who turns the wrenchs? or who has the biggest ego?? or bank account??? or the most understanding spouse???
but what makes a difference to me is the soul of the car guy. anther topic altogether!!???? ha

It's all ego.

Don't believe it? Look at the answers here.

"How dare those guys with money buy their car! I built mine! I'm better than they are!"

Yeah, like that's any different than the guy whipping out his checkbook and flaunting it.

I used to restore for a living so I made money off those check writers.

95% of them were down to Earth, decent people who didn't have the knowledge, skill, or investment in tools needed to build their cars. But all of them had a passion for their particular car.

I built dreams. Ain't a damned thing wrong with having a dream and watching it come true.

Well, the thought process is interesting. as if I give a **** what anyone has to say about my ride. how many girls can you get in your back seat. lol
a lot of room in my 67 fastback. 35 years ago it was who had the finest girl and the most room. I had both. ha ha still do, and the car is much nicer now.

My first ever attempt at building a car was an E body. I was green and naive and had no idea how much they actually cost to build. I bought a project. Looked like this when I got it.

I got as far as the picture below.

Everything was going well until it came time to buy parts.....$300 for door handles...$75 for dash screws ( for real !!). This was 2007-08 close to the height of ridiculous pricing for parts and cars. I hated getting ripped off so I sold off the project. BUT I must say....the E body guys that helped me out were salt of the earth nice to me and very helpful.

Or take your 68 GT to a dodge dealer for an alignment and hear the mechanics over 50 say nice things. And the 22 year old snot say "the paint has swirl marks" Gee, "does yours?"

My Duster was bought. But I know everything that is in it and I am learning how to work on it. I do what I can but farm out stuff that might be really expensive to fix if I fu** it up. I do not and never have looked down my nose at ANY other Mopar. I love them all. I spent 15 minutes talking to a guy at Moparfest with a pristine 73 Plymouth Fury wagon. Why? Cos it was a beautifully restored piece of work. And I love the Fuselage style C-Bodies. You want to critique my Duster? I really don't care. I love it for what it is and what it will be eventually. Ok, it ain't perfect but it is a great car and does exactly what I want it to. It's no trailer queen, it was bought to DRIVE and to enjoy. It is an H-Code "Oh but you have a 360 in it now". Ok, it's a 360 but ya know it's a built 360. Not sure I made my point, I'm on beer 5 and I have to get back to the hockey game, 1-1 OT go Leafs go.
