CAR SHOW Ebody Jerks turn their noses up

-
Headers....... real car people build them. First question I ALWAYS ask is if they built their own headers or "bought" them built. They strut like a peacock with their 12.30 E.T., when all they did was write a big fat 1000 dollar check to TTI. I mean, they brag about their 425 hp 408 stroker, when all they did was buy a set of 650 ceramic coated Doug's. At least I KNOW what's in those headers. I understand the purpose of every bend, on how it helps with the scavenge effect.
.............
Everyone is in the same river, same canoe, just paddling with a different oar. So, we compare oars... :D
......................

If you've ever owned an early A body, you've probably built headers. If I had to count the sets (including Chevy headers) I've done 11 sets of headers. After the second set I said I'd never do it again. But, when you can't buy the stuff, you have to build it.

If you ever needed an example of what a great car guy should be look no further than Geof. Helped me out big time too and now I'm trying to pass it on.
You know.....I still remember when I was very green here and had a broken turn signal lever on my 64 Valiant and I couldn't find a replacement. Without even asking you sent me two of them, even paid for shipping and never asked for a thing in return. THAT is what a club is supposed to be about! That blew me away. I have never forgotten your generosity. Wish you lived nearby!

E-bodies are stylish you have to admit. I just don't car for the way I sit in them or the way they drive....and I have driven
Hemi Cudas , 6 pack Cudas and Challengers , T/A's and AARs , Conv. 440 '70 Challenger R/T , and even a 70 Slant 6 Barracuda !.... Hell I named my son Jerhemi Cuda !
But I really like the way A-Bodies and B-Bodies drive and handle... they are just tighter !

I couldn't care less if people want to turn their nose up. Some of the worst people I have met are "Mopar" people who are put off by the choices I made with my Dart build. And some of the most amazed are Ford and Chevy guys. At the end of the day, I have a story to tell about my car. I go to shows and cruises because I like to talk and I have a story to tell. If people don't want to hear it, so be it. And I am not bothered one damn bit by a guy whose only story about his car is that he wrote the check. Most of the time, that guy has a cool car that I would like to have.

hey i know the snob's are everywhere . in 2000 my bud and i went to a concours letter car show in newark , ca . mr letter car gary gowers himself was one of the judges . we just went to look mind you maybe talk with gowers . well we drove my beater 64 k h/t 340 hp 413 , just a car thats been around the block , if you catch my drift . and we got ushered into the marching band with biton twirlers and a ful marching band down main st in newark , to a city park , well all there beauty queens around us . so we go to park in the lot next to the show , and again we're put in the show between a 64 k rag full resto , and a 65 l 4spd . we had a great time watching all these folks polish n wax them up for this show . even a german guy barking orders to his crew , polishing on a one off colored 57 c . it was gorges , as if no one that ever owned it . but we did have a good time with the other owners of snubbed cars . one guy with the 65 l 4spd car , charge the engine for the trip , from ny state . out came the long ram 413 and a 383 6pck took its place . nice guy he was . but other than the pro's that where there , only a hand full of the snubs worked on the cars to get them to the state there in . pocketbook car people . and their down noise us that did it all . oh and we drove a car there , that had the most produced of any year letter car . and it was the only one , there was a 64 k rag . told the gal that was showing the resto process of her car with a photo book . '' i said , i had one of them also '' guess i didn't impress her , lol .

been there done it too! I fully agree the A and B bodies are tighter, just way better made and designed cars than the E bodies!.. but E bodies are sexier looking!!!!! looks costs money!!!!!

I drive mine almost daily year-round so talk to a lot of folks about the car. 99% are positive and I am always thankful for their comments and stories. That 1% who want to point out every ding dent and scratch (and there are plenty) aren't worth the energy.

I really don't "get" the park and sit car show thing.

I made a sign for my car that says:
Body Work by Mike Harrison
Paint by Mike Harrison
Interior by Mike Harrison
Engine Rebuild by Mike Harrison...etc, etc, etc by Mike Harrison. I love it when someone asks me what the name of my shop is, and I tell them I work (actually now I say worked since I'm retired) in a bank.

"As evidenced from this thread, there's enough noses in the air from both sides of the aisle."

Son of a *****....I read this and immediately agreed. Sometimes a point is made that just resonates the truth. Well done, Sir.

I don't mind if a guy hasn't built his car entirely my himself. What I do care about is when people are truthful and reasonably humble. There is no shame in admitting that you have limitations. If I met a guy that drove his car straight from a shop to a car show, I'd get along fine as long as he didn't claim it to be all his own work while refusing to share some of the experiences.
We all have heard from the idiots that brag about their 440 Hemi cars, 1968 Challengers, 1973 Superbirds and the rare turbo Valiant. When a guy shows up in a nice pro built car but really seems enthused about it, I won't be the guy to snub him.

Being an ex hemi racer, I remember (not calling any names) but if u didn`t race a hemi, u weren`t sh--, and not worth talking to, I was in that group, it`s called HEMI ITIS !

Funny, when I told a few local car guys I am building a 72 Challenger, their first question was are you putting a Hemi in it? When I told them it will be a 440 (or a bored over 440), one said why would you waste your time with that, when you could put a Hemi in it? Now that's just crazy!

So seein' as I'm in one of those moods what bothers me more is when I walk over to somebody on the street who has a nice old car and compliment them on how great it looks and before I can breath they tell me "IT NOT FOR SALE". Don't understand why someone can't take a genuine compliment with out lookin for an ulterior motive.

if the guy had ever driven a stock hemi and a 440 then he would know the hemi is only 1 RCH faster in the quarter.

Be careful of labeling. If some guys a dick - then he's a dick. That he owns a this or that or built that or bought this - does that make him a dick?

I've been into cars since it was my first spoken word. My parents get a kick out of that story. Lol. GMs, Fords, Mopars. Far from expert in any, but have owned/messed with plenty of the mix.

I've paid for work I can do. And I've done work I should have paid for. Lol Time, health, family, priorities. They all go to the why's and when's to define the how's.

Beyond the ol school ball busting over brand - I've met great guys/gals all around.

I hang at an e-body website and met many from it at Carlisle past few years. 90% great, 5% wierd and 5 % who need a slap upside the head. Lol. Don't sweat it man!

Not limited to E-Body guys but they seem to be the turd in the punchbowl. Lots of self-important fucktards at car shows. You want to be snubbed, take your 65 Comet to a car show.
The public love them and everyone or their brother used to have one but the judges cant run past fast enough. It's why I quit going to car shows.
Full disclosure, I will probably show my Barracuda at the all Mopar show in Everett 6/4/17. They have two A-body categories, stock and modified. Mine will have to be entered modified by
their rules-------------------we shall see--------------------DR--------------:)

Godd luck.

I've attempted to bend exhaust pipe with a conduit bender.
Didn't work out so well.
Doug's headers are a bargain at $600.........
Or you can wait til Autozone has a sale.
That's what I did.
