I popped the door panel off my 68 Dart to have my door lock cylinder re-coded. In doing so, I noticed this piece disconnected from front window channel, where it's supposed to attach. I'm assuming it's some sort of support bracket.

Since I never even noticed it, I'm not convinced it's 100% necessary. But, is there any way to fix this and re-attach the bracket without completely disassembling the inner workings of the door and taking the window out? It looks as though it's supposed to be spot welded.

So the obvious question is: does the window go up and down without the piece?

I'll try to get you a few pics tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that is an adjuster that goes on the bottom of the wing vent assembly inside the door.

Yep pretty sure that attaches to front vent window frame and is needed.
I can get a pic in the morning

It is the bottoms vent window frame bracket! When you put the vent window down through the top of the door, the bottom of the window frame has a pin on it and goes into this bracket to keep the bottom in place! Yea, it's needed!!

^ what they said. There is also an adjuster bolt that goes into it and a nut that secures it to the bottom of the door covered by a body plug.

I was able to see the pin that it sits on. It appears that it's supposed to be spot welded to the piece of channel/vent frame. Everything seems to work fine without it. I'm wondering if I can get my MIG torch in there to put a couple tacks on it without burning up the rubber in the channel.

Any other ideas to repair this in the vehicle?

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try to tack it. Id try to rivet it, but I'm not sure I can get a drill and rivet gun into position. Either way, I've got a couple options. Thanks again!

Can't you just take the thing out of the door, weld it and put it back in. Seems like the easiest way to me.

Take all the windows, regulators, latches, locks and that other useless crap out of the door completely and toss it.

If you're not sliding in through the window with Boss Hawg and Rosco hot on your tail, you're doing it wrong. The vent window delete option makes this WAY easier as you get older.

By the looks of it, that would require disassembling the inner workings of the door/window assembly. Definitely not the easiest way to handle this. There isn't a huge load on this bracket. A couple small tacks will work great.

Well, it looks like someone else beat me to the picture. Brian6pack is absolutely right. The vent window assembly will go in with that piece attached. You just have to twist it a bit.

Well, luckily I was able to zap a few good tacks to this little piece. It's really solid now. Thanks for the help guys. The pictures helped a lot.
