Hi, I'm trying to mount the reverse lockout mechanism on my 68 Dart with A833 and Comp Plus shifter. Something does not seem right. When I sandwich the mechanism between the mounting adapter and the shifter mechanism, the pawl that moves as the RED stick moves fore and aft, would be pinched as I tightened down. The last photo tells the story, Thoughts, don't hold back...I'm willing to be the exception to the "its idiot proof" rule. JP

I am following this with interest. Is the shifter and handle you chose the one that came originally on the L023 back in 68? If so, where did you obtain it/cost? Thanks in advance.

I bought it from Passon Performance a couple of yrs ago. Just now ready to install. Price was pretty speedy but I bought the tranny clutch and QT scatter shield all at the same time. I'm thinking the shifter was like $500. It is supposed to be a correct rebuild????

Thanks for that information...I keep pondering whether to put in a 4 speed or go with an auto in my 572 based L023 clone. Still going to be a while before I will be at that point however as just finished the mini tubs, wheel well modification and roll bar installation.

I am sure the shifter might have been more than that. looks like you are doing it right

What does the mounting bracket look like?
I'm using a billet bracket I'm getting from Brewer's. But the problem is the tab on the lockout mech binding with the shifter. The bracket would be on top in the photo and would not interfere.

Hopefully mine is correct, I have not installed it yet
Yours does not have that little tab. Mine looks like that yellow tab has been welded on after the fact. I wonder if someone used it on a different shifter or it was a "guide" for some application. Thanks, I'll see if I get any other theories :).

can you tell me how long the rod is for the red ball handle and how much threads at each end. I have to make a rod I lost mine. thanks

I'll measure it and give you a couple of photos. Unfortunately, I'm out of town right now, be back this week-end.

awesome thanks
Dave, I was able to have a friend look at my lockout rod. I was shocked to discover it is actually 1/4 inch ALL THREAD covered with a plastic sheath. It is 8 inches long end to end and double nutted at the bottom. I DOUBT that is factory. I'm considering having a machinist friend make a new one out of 1/4 inch rod. See below...

The threaded Rod is original.

Troy (ns1rm21) has one NOS in the box/plastic package. Threaded rod with plastic cover.

Maybe he will post pics if you can catch him between working on his BO clone or building SEMA show cars by day.

Thanks
But I don't believe that is correct. It should just be threaded at the ends

Problem solved, the tab appears to have been someone's after thought, probably for a different shifter. I cut it off and all is well...

I have four of these lockout mechanisms, and I believe this is how they were sold by Hurst. Two are NOS and have a darker finish. As for the threaded rod, I think this was for making it easy to shorten, as we can see have been done on some of the cars. The one NOS I have, is still in an unopened box, and I can´t check this rod...

I am looking for one of these. Would you be interested in selling one?

And if you want to sell another please start a conversation with me when you have a moment. I would be interested in the OEM unit. Thanks.
