I bought these tires online about a year and a half ago and the raised white letters on the back tires 255 60 15 have turned brown. Anybody know if this is a factory defect or should I just try to paint them white again. The front tires are still white. Thanks for any help.

Get a stiff or medium bristled scrub brush and some Wesley's Bleach White. I usually wet the tire, wheel and fender/quarter panel around the wheel well. I scrub the whole tire for uniform blackness and the white letters will brighten right up. Be sure to rinse liberally.

Wesley's was bought out some time ago by BlackMagic. Same color bottle but different company. It's nothing like it used to be.

I always used a brush and Formula 409 and it worked well.

@69conv I know I've read info somewhere about BFG's being replaced for that very reason. Try contacting BFG directly to see if your tires are covered for the letter discoloration.

If I can find the thread/source, I'll post it....Good Luck

My 255 60 rears are doing the same thing. I have tried all the chemicals and procedures except sanding them. Time to call BFG. Thanks all for the info.

Give them a light DRY sand with very fine (600-grit) sandpaper, the garnet types used by carpenters will not discolour them. Then spray with Armour-All will make them shiny, except they can go a bit 'milky' after a few weeks if you don't keep applying the Armour-All.

back in the day I would use an SOS pad, the soaps already in it

BF GOODRICH is aware of the problem with the white lettering. They will replace them free of charge.Call them and they will set you up with a bf goodrich dealer nearest to you for inspection even if you did not buy them there. Now the dealer may try and make you pay for mounting and balancing.I am getting ready to get my second set

Same issue with the same size 255`s here in the uk, my dealer over here brushed me off claiming it was dirt as it was the rears only even though id only covered 11 miles on them (winter).

I need to call. Here's 4 photos of the fronts (no issue), rears ( we have a problem), before and after. I used Wesleys, a stiff brush and SOS pads. The photos don't tell the story but a bit better than before the scrubbing. The rears are still not as bright white as the fronts. Definitely a difference.

Take some 240 grit wet/dry sandpaper and a flat sanding block, and wet-sand the discolored white rubber off the letters (only!). Don't sand or scrub the black rubber. Believe me, all white letters and whitewalls have this discoloration problem. But yes, the BFGs seem to be extremely bad. (Also, don't worry, you won't sand the white right off, it is very thick)

Thank you the whitewalls on my Fury are dingy, tried many products and nothing gets them white. They are a brand-x tire, makes me believe the quality is lacking.
