the shaft that bolts the assembly down has a small grove in one end does it matter which way it points
 
The notch should go to the rear and down on the right side and the left side (driver's side) notch should face down and to the front.
 
I agree what the person above me said. The oil holes in the shaft aim towards the rocker arms.
 
Make sure the rocker shaft oil holes are pointed down in relation to the bolt holes.
Verify correct bolt torque with the SB guys. I think it's wrong in the SM.
Also, as you tighten the shaft down evenly, continually check that the push rods are still in the rocker cups.
 
Any pictures both sides have holes the small holes point upward don't they
