1968 BARRACUDA WHEEL & TIRE OPTIONs !!!!

-
I recently bought the Alterkation kit with the Wilwood brakes. I'm very close to installing them. However, I can't go stock anymore on the wheels. Their recommendations is a wheel no smaller than a 17". I would prefer going with a 18" since there are more options on tire sizes. Does anyone know what is the max diameter and width on the overall size of the wheel with the tire without going crazy on adjustments or cutting?
What? I have a 68 Barracuda with the RMS front suspension and Wilwood brakes. I run 15x6 Pro Star wheels with 215x60x15 tires. Works great.

i dont run the alterkation kit, but i have tubular UCA & LCS's. Currently im running a 245/40/18"s up front and 285/40/18"s in the rear. I can fit more tire on both but i played it safe since my first time with running the wheels and tires. a 255/40 would probably fit better on the wide rim up front but may needs some trimming to the fender, a 275/35 would probably fit as well. i can fit a 295 in the rear and still have clearance. but i think much more then that would be a stretch since i am on hotchkis leafs and dr diff offset kit. Unfortunately i dont have any good pics since the car is still in the garage, hopefully i will have it running in the next few weeks (never thought to upgrade alternator when i went to efi so car wont stay running because of voltage drop below 11vdc......im an idiot...LOL) and a poked a hole in my radiator so yeah....

I know 18"s are not everyones "cup of tea" but i like it........ so :p

It does not make any sense that a taller tire of equal width on the same wheel would clear when a shorter tire of equal width on the same wheel would not.

It's the tread width. Wider on a 60 series than a comparable 70 series.

I have factory 15x7 steelies, BBP on my 68. ALL factory 15x7 are 4-1/4 B.S. ALL. I have 215-60x15 tires and the passenger side clears by only 1/8". The driver side rubs when the wheel is turned but only in reverse. It is the extreme corner of the tire that hits the extreme lower corner of the fender. You can expect up to 1/2" difference from side to side per Mopar Performance.

Another thing that must be considered when talking tire clearance are the front brakes. My 73-75 A body front discs move the wheels outboard by something like 1/2" per side. This definitely affects the clearance when turning.

OP said he was considering 205-60x15 on the front with 15x7 and 4-1/4 B.S.. I would say that would work.
Also 15x8 with 4-1/4 BS and 245-60 tires on the rear will fit. Except I'd go 255.

This is why I went with 15x6 Pro Stars and 215x60x15 tires on the RMS front end with Wilwood brakes and the tires fit great and look great. I also have 275x60x15 Nitto Drag radials on 15x8 Pro stars on the rear that also work great. Stock wheel wells with a 8 3/4 and 002/003 SS springs. This is on my 68 Barracuda fast back.

I don't know why RMS recommends at least 17" wheels gor caliper clearance. I got the 4 piston caliper with the 12.19 inch discs.
Thanks for the info.

I really like the way your car looks. The wheels don't look as big as I thought. Looks pretty nice. I'm still shopping for the right wheels. I have a list of them from classic Torq trusties to Cragars and I like these from Weld (see pic). What do you think?
