hello, after a 3 year stall in my project I am back to it. its a 70 dart swinger one owner. The engine bay is painted and I put the 340 in. I am working on cleaning up some of the various parts and the engine bay harness is next. It is very original with not splices or cut. it has the original tape on it. is there a product used to detail these harnesses or do people re tape it. or even buy new? any help would be great,
thanks, Joseph Moy

If it were me and it's not a 100 point restoration, I'd buy a new one. Electrical gremlins are a chore to trace and using a 47 year old wire harness is just asking for trouble. Just my .02

Thanks for the response that is a good point to consider. Is there a company that makes a good quality repop harness?

I have a similar vehicle, H code 340 swinger. I do agree about replacing the under hood wiring. The last I knew, there wasn't a correct Rally Dash Harness available. Things may have changed though. I think I asked Herb's parts a few years back, and they said they had wiring harnesses ready to go. Under hood harness was what I was looking for.

Can't speak for their harnesses but I have purchased hard to find harness parts (bulkhead connectors, fusible link) from Evans. Looked top notch and original to me.

EvansWiring.com : Product Catalog

I won't discount the value of replacing the harness but if it's in good shape (not hacked, not cooked and brittle) I also think you'd be surprised at what some non-adhesive harness tape and a little lacquer thinner on exposed insulation will do for appearance. You can tape over the top or re-wrap.
