Would a "J" head be correct for a 72 340? Getting parts together for the machine shop and the question came up as to what's correct. I'm building this car to run the pure stock drags, and I think they get particular with casting numbers. The car is a 72 Demon built 8-71
 
Tech normally goes by the casting number, which would be 3418915. Sometimes they allow an alternate number. It would be best to ask them for a spec/casting number sheet that they go by to insure everything matches and if you have any options. Have a carb?

TQ intakes went through a variety of castings through their history as well.
